Could CDC ’s New Catheter-Site Dressing Advice Curb Infections?
To help prevent intravascular catheter-related infections, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has updated its guidelines on catheter-site dressing regimens.
The CDC now advises that for patients aged 18 years and older, “Chlorhexidine-impregnated dressings with an FDA-cleared label that specifies a clinical indication for reducing catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI) or catheter-associated bloodstream infection (CABSI) are recommended to protect the insertion site of short-term, non-tunneled central venous catheters (1A)."

Adjunctive use of an Ethyl Lauroyl Arginate (LAE)-containing mouthwash in the nonsurgical therapy of periodontitis: a randomized clinical trial.

Conclusion: All the authors found statistically significant differences in Streptococcus mutans levels during and after the use of a chlorhexidine mouthwash. Although the results are suggestive, there is a clear need for the development of new studies with higher quality and with longer follow-ups, in order to assess whether the results translate into less development of dental caries and, consequently, whether or not these products should be incorporated into prevention protocols.
