Genetic enhancement of < i > Trichoderma asperellum < /i > biocontrol potentials and carbendazim tolerance for chickpea dry root rot disease management
This study investigates the N-methyl-n-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (NTG) (100 mg/L) induced mutants ofTrichoderma asperellum. Six NTG (3 each from 1st& 2nd round) induced mutants were developed and evaluated their biocontrol activities and carbendazim tolerance. Among the mutant N2-3, N2-1, N1 and N2-2 gave the best antagonistic and volatile metabolite activities on inhibition of chickpeaF.oxysporum f. sp.ciceri,B.cinerea andR.bataticola mycelium under in vitro condition. Mutant N2-2 (5626.40 μg/ml) showed the highest EC50 value against carbendazim followed by N2-3 (206.36 μg/ml) and N2-1 (16.41 μg/ml); and succeeded to sp...

Vector species, pasture legume host range, and impact on grain legumes of an Australian soybean dwarf virus isolate
AbstractSoybean dwarf virus (SbDV; familyTombusviridae, genusLuteovirus, speciesSoybean dwarf virus) can cause damaging disease epidemics in cultivated plants of the family Fabaceae. The biological characteristics of SbDV isolate WA-8, including its vector species, host range, and impact on Australian grain legume cultivars, were investigated in a series of glasshouse experiments. Isolate WA-8 was classified as the YP strain, as it was transmitted byAcyrthosiphon pisum (pea aphid) andMyzus persicae (green peach aphid) and infected known strain indicator species. Of the 18 pasture legume species inoculated with SbDV, 12 wer...

Combating Escherichia coli O157:H7 with Functionalized Chickpea-Derived Antimicrobial Peptides
Adv Sci (Weinh). 2022 Dec 23:e2205301. doi: 10.1002/advs.202205301. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe rapid dissemination of antibiotic resistance accelerates the desire for new antibacterial agents. Here, a class of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) is designed by modifying the structural parameters of a natural chickpea-derived AMP-Leg2, termed "functionalized chickpea-derived Leg2 antimicrobial peptides" (FCLAPs). Among the FCLAPs, KTA and KTR show superior antibacterial efficacy against the foodborne pathogen Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 (with MICs in the range of 2.5-4.7 µmol L-1 ) and demonstrate satisfactory feas...

Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 9030: Chickpea and Lupin Sprouts, Stimulated by Different LED Lights, As Novel Examples of Isoflavones-Rich Functional Food, and Their Impact on Breast and Prostate Cells
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of LED light (red, blue, green, yellow), as well as total darkness, and natural light conditions (as reference), on isoflavones content, determined by HPLC-UV-VIS, during 10 days of harvesting of chickpea and lupin sprouts. Due to the ambiguous estrogenic potential of isoflavones, the impact of these sprouts on normal and cancer prostate and breast cells was evaluated. Yellow LED light resulted in the highest sum of isoflavones in chickpea sprouts (up to 1 g/100 g dw), while for green LED light, the isoflavones sum was the lowest. The exact opposite effect was noted for lupin sprout...

Complete genome sequence of a novel polerovirus infecting chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)
AbstractThe complete genome sequence of a novel polerovirus identified in chickpea (C. arietinum L.) is presented. Its sequence was assembled using small RNA sequencing and assembly (sRSA) and confirmed by RT-PCR, 5' and 3 ’ RACE, and Sanger sequencing. According to the current ICTV sequence demarcation criterion of greater than 10% amino acid (aa) sequence divergence in all gene products when compared to other poleroviruses, the newly identified polerovirus should be classified as a member of a new species, and we propose the name"chickpea leafroll virus" (CpLRV) for this virus. The genome of CpLRV is 5,770 nu...

Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 8204: Effects of Hydrothermal Processing on Volatile and Fatty Acids Profile of Cowpeas (Vigna unguiculata), Chickpeas (Cicer arietinum) and Kidney Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris)
ati Oey Legumes are an economical source of protein, starch, dietary fibre, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. However, they are not as fully utilised, due to volatile compounds contributing to their undesirable odour. The purpose of this work was to understand the processing time’s effect on the legumes’ volatile profile. Hence, this study investigated the effects of hydrothermal processing times on the volatile and fatty acids profiles of cowpeas, chickpeas and kidney beans. All legumes were pre-soaked (16 h) and then hydrothermally processed at 95 °C for 15 to 120 min, using ...

Viruses, Vol. 14, Pages 2511: Weed Hosts Represent an Important Reservoir of Turnip Yellows Virus and a Possible Source of Virus Introduction into Oilseed Rape Crop
umar Kundu Turnip yellows virus (TuYV) is one of the most important pathogens of oilseed rape worldwide. The virus has a large host range including many crop species (e.g., oilseed rape, pea, chickpea) and weeds from more than twenty plant families. Other than oilseed rape, we detected TuYV in many commonly grown weed species that share the fields and vegetation period together with canola crops in Czech and Slovak Republics. TuYV was detected by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in at least 26 species including main crop hosts (oilseed rape), intercrops and weeds such as Amaranthus retroflexus, ...

Braz J Biol. 2022 Nov 4;82:e268350. doi: 10.1590/1519-6984.268350. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTBiochemical and physiological parameters, growth, and yield of field crops especially salt sensitive crops like chickpea are affected adversely by salinity in arid to semi-arid regions. To investigate the effect of different salinity levels on growth, biochemical and physiological parameters of chickpea genotypes, a pot experiment following CRD, two factor factorial design, was conducted in the glasshouse at the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, The University of Agriculture, Peshawar, Pakistan. Ten (10) kg of soil...
