Conditional survival analysis and real-time prognosis prediction in stage III T3 –T4 colon cancer patients after surgical resection: a SEER database analysis
ConclusionsOur study developed nomograms and predictive models for postoperative stage III survival in T3 –T4 colon cancer with the aim of accurately estimating conditional survival. Survival bias in our analyses may lead to overestimation of survival outcomes, which may limit the applicability of our findings. (Source: International Journal of Colorectal Disease)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1567: Discovery of Novel Potential Prognostic Markers and Targeted Therapy to Overcome Chemotherapy Resistance in an Advanced-Stage Wilms Tumor
In this study, we aimed to discover potential mutation markers and drug targets associated with chemotherapy resistance in advanced-stage WT. We performed exome sequencing to detect somatic mutations and molecular targets in 43 WT samples, comprising 26 advanced-stage WTs, of which 7 cases were chemotherapy-resistant. Our analysis revealed four genes (ALPK2, C16orf96, PRKDC, and SVIL) that correlated with chemotherapy resistance and reduced disease-free survival in advanced-stage WT. Additionally, we identified driver mutations in 55 genes within the chemotherapy-resistant group, including 14 druggable cancer driver genes....

French national survey on breast cancer care: caregiver and patient views
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides an updated analysis of breast cancer care pathways in France. Overall, the initial processes of diagnosis, announcement, and treatment were swift and were in agreement with the best care standards. No barriers to accessing care were identified. Based on the study findings, we proposed several strategies to improve the quality of care for patients in supportive care, coordination with primary care physicians, reconstructive surgery, and fertility preservation access.PMID:38635135 | DOI:10.1007/s12282-024-01576-4 (Source: Breast Cancer)

High Financial Hardship among Patients with Advanced Ovarian Cancer
This study evaluated financial toxicity in patients with advanced ovarian cancer. Using secondary data from a study of barriers to palliative care, financial toxicity (FT) was measured through the Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity scale. Univariate and bivariate analyses were used to assess the relationship between selected demographic (i.e., age, race, ethnicity, education, place of birth, insurance type, yearly household income, employment status) and treatment-specific variables (i.e., years since diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal and targeted therapy) with clinically relevant financial toxi...

Inflammatory breast cancer: As surgical oncologists, what can we do?
Int Rev Cell Mol Biol. 2024;384:113-124. doi: 10.1016/bs.ircmb.2024.02.004. Epub 2024 Mar 28.ABSTRACTBreast cancer surgery is the primary treatment for early-stage breast cancer. However, inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), with its specific presentation characterized by skin invasion, is unfit for primary surgery. According to the different guidelines, the management of IBC is trimodal with the coordination of oncologists, surgeons, and radiation therapists. Advances in breast cancer imaging and the development of more targeted therapies make new challenges for this aggressive cancer. This chapter aims to provide an update ...

Inflammatory breast cancer: Epidemiologic data and therapeutic results
In this study, we reviewed the literature using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database compared to other published series. We observed that in the high incidence areas (North of Africa) when compared to "classical" breast cancer, IBC was associated to younger age (less than 50 years) with rapid evolution of signs and symptoms (in less than 3 up to 6 months), and more aggressive clinical and histopathological-molecular parameters, due to the predominance of triple-negative and HER2+ subtypes in around 60% of cases. An epidemiologic trend was observed in both high and low incidence areas since the ei...

Gallbladder cancer: surgical treatment, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy
Postgrad Med. 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1080/00325481.2024.2345585. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGallbladder cancer is a common type of biliary tract tumor. Optimal management for early stage cases typically involves radical excision as the primary treatment modality. Various surgical techniques, including laparoscopic, robotic, and navigational surgery, have demonstrated favorable clinical outcomes in radical gallbladder excision. Unfortunately, most patients are ineligible for surgical intervention because of the advanced stage of the disease upon diagnosis. Consequently, non-surgical interventions, such as chemotherapy, rad...
