Repellent activity of Vitex negundo and Curcuma longa herbal extract against simulium species in India
CONCLUSION: At an optimum concentration of 10%, the methanolic extract of vitex negundo cream provided complete protection times (CPTs) 320.4, 358.6, and 346.4 minutes, respectively. This finding offers confirmation of the methanolic extract and chloroform extract potential for use in new blackfly repellents.PMID:38634372 | DOI:10.4103/JVBD.JVBD_181_23 (Source: Journal of Vector Borne Diseases)

Unveiling the healing properties of 2,3-dehydrosilychristin: a potential silymarin-derived flavonolignan from < em > Vitex negundo < /em >
Nat Prod Res. 2024 Feb 9:1-9. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2024.2312542. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe compound 2,3-dehydrosilychristin, a flavonolignan linked to silychristin and silymarin, remains intriguing due to its challenging isolation from silymarin. While silymarin has been the exclusive source of flavonolignans - silybin, silychristin and silydianin - 2,3-dehydrosilychristin is reported in this study from Vitex negundo Linn. leaves. 2,3-Dehydrosilychristin (7) and 14 other compounds were isolated through focused extraction. Its subsequent pharmacological evaluation demonstrated potent antioxidant and in-vitro anti-i...

Isolation of New Diterpenoids from the Halophyte, Vitex rotundifolia, and their Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Activities
In this study, three diterpenoids (1-3), including one known compound (1), were isolated from the fruits of Vitex rotundifolia and their structures were determined via spectroscopic analysis. In lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW264.7 cells, these compounds dose-dependently decreased the intracellular reactive oxygen species levels and nitric oxide production compared to those in the control cells. At 25 μM/mL, these compounds also diminished the protein expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines, inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, and interleukin-6, with compound 3 exhibiting the most potent inhibitory e...

Casticin ameliorates osteoarthritic cartilage damage in rats through PI3K/AKT/HIF-1 α signaling
Chem Biol Interact. 2024 Feb 1;391:110897. doi: 10.1016/j.cbi.2024.110897. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTKnee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a chronic, disabling knee joint lesion in which degeneration and defects in articular cartilage are the most important features. Casticin (CAS) is a flavonoid extracted from the Chinese herb Vitex species that has anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic and mechanistic effects of CAS on cartilage damage in KOA. A KOA rat model was established by anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT), and cartilage morphological changes were as...

Effects of the PREMEN-CALM ® in the Management of the Premenstrual Syndrome: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Pilot Study
J Diet Suppl. 2024 Jan 11:1-17. doi: 10.1080/19390211.2023.2301398. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPremenstrual syndrome is a common disorder in women of reproductive age characterized by a variety of cyclical symptoms with a great impact on their lifestyle. Available pharmacological options include both antidepressants and oral contraceptives, both of which have side effects, are expensive and not always effective. Vitamins, minerals and plant extracts have been proven to alleviate the symptomatology of the premenstrual syndrome. For this reason, the purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of a commercial phyto...
