Females have a higher incidence of PAH, which is reflected globally across registries in the United States, Europe, and Asia. However, despite female predominance, women had better outcomes compared with male patients, a finding that has been labeled the "estrogen paradox." Special considerations should be given to women with PAH regarding sexual health, ...

Intraventricular Hemorrhage and Related Hydrocephalus Patients Demographics in a University Hospital NICU: Single-Center Data
CONCLUSION: The permanent CSF diversion rate was significantly higher in the high-grade hemorrhage group, which had significantly lower weight and gestational age at birth. Moreover, only weight at VAD insertion had minimal effect on the need for permanent CSF diversion.PMID:38497181 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43279-22.1 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Association between body mass index and in vitro fertilization/intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes: An analysis of 15,124 normal ovarian responders in China
CONCLUSIONS: High BMI was related to poor IVF/ICSI outcomes in women with a normal ovarian response, and CLBR declined with increasing BMI, partly due to suppressed endometrial receptivity. A high BMI had the most negative effect on young women with anticipated positive prognoses.PMID:38494342 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002992 (Source: Chinese Medical Journal)

Major placenta previa among patients with and without previous cesarean section: Maternal characteristics, outcomes and risk factors
CONCLUSION: (1) Patients with combined existence of major PP and previous CS had significantly higher rates of adverse maternal outcomes (2) Alone, prior CS in major PP patients increased the Odds Ratios of cesarean hysterectomy, urinary tract injuries, diagnosis of PAS, excessive intra-operative bleeding and repeated packed RBCs transfusions. (3) Among our PP patients with previous CS, the increased rate and OR of PAS diagnosis could in-part explain the adverse maternal outcomes.PMID:38493552 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2024.03.012 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

In-Utero Treatment of Fetal SVT: A Case Report
AbstractFetal supraventricular tachycardia may lead to low cardiac output, nonimmune hydrops and fetal demise. We are presenting an antenatal case in whom fetal SVT was picked up during examination and was confirmed by ultrasound and fetal echocardiography. Following administration of flecainide to mother, fetal SVT improved, baby did not develop hydrops, pregnancy continued till term and patient delivered vaginally. Awareness regarding existence of fetal arrhythmias is important for obstetricians as early diagnosis and treatment before development of fetal hydrops will not only help in improving fetal outcome but also in ...

Outcomes of the MAMA Training: A Simulation and Experiential Learning Intervention for Labor and Delivery Providers to Improve Respectful Maternity Care for Women Living with HIV in Tanzania
In this study, we evaluated the MAMA training, a team-based simulation training for labor and delivery (L&D) providers to improve RMC and reduce stigma in caring for WLHIV. The study was conducted in six clinical sites in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. 60 L&D providers participated in the MAMA training, which included a two-and-a-half-day workshop followed by a half-day on-site refresher. We assessed the impact of the MAMA training using a pre-post quasi-experimental design. To assess provider impacts, participants completed assessments at baseline and post-intervention periods, measuring RMC practices, HIV st...
