Pulmonary Hypertension in Women
Methodist Debakey Cardiovasc J. 2024 Mar 14;20(2):70-80. doi: 10.14797/mdcvj.1308. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTPulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare devastating disease characterized by elevated pulmonary artery pressure and increased pulmonary vascular resistance. Females have a higher incidence of PAH, which is reflected globally across registries in the United States, Europe, and Asia. However, despite female predominance, women had better outcomes compared with male patients, a finding that has been labeled the "estrogen paradox." Special considerations should be given to women with PAH regarding sexual health, ...

Intraventricular Hemorrhage and Related Hydrocephalus Patients Demographics in a University Hospital NICU: Single-Center Data
CONCLUSION: The permanent CSF diversion rate was significantly higher in the high-grade hemorrhage group, which had significantly lower weight and gestational age at birth. Moreover, only weight at VAD insertion had minimal effect on the need for permanent CSF diversion.PMID:38497181 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43279-22.1 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Association between body mass index and in vitro fertilization/intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes: An analysis of 15,124 normal ovarian responders in China
CONCLUSIONS: High BMI was related to poor IVF/ICSI outcomes in women with a normal ovarian response, and CLBR declined with increasing BMI, partly due to suppressed endometrial receptivity. A high BMI had the most negative effect on young women with anticipated positive prognoses.PMID:38494342 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002992 (Source: Chinese Medical Journal)

Major placenta previa among patients with and without previous cesarean section: Maternal characteristics, outcomes and risk factors
CONCLUSION: (1) Patients with combined existence of major PP and previous CS had significantly higher rates of adverse maternal outcomes (2) Alone, prior CS in major PP patients increased the Odds Ratios of cesarean hysterectomy, urinary tract injuries, diagnosis of PAS, excessive intra-operative bleeding and repeated packed RBCs transfusions. (3) Among our PP patients with previous CS, the increased rate and OR of PAS diagnosis could in-part explain the adverse maternal outcomes.PMID:38493552 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2024.03.012 (Source: Reproductive Biology)
