Post-COVID reactivation of latent Bartonella henselae infection: a case report and literature review
Cat scratch disease (CSD) is caused by Bartonella henselae (B. henselae) and presents as lymphadenopathy following close contact with cats. However, in context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, clinical manifestat... (Source: BMC Infectious Diseases)

Mapping the tRNA modification landscape of Bartonella henselae Houston I and Bartonella quintana Toulouse
In this study, we employed a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating comparative genomics, mass spectrometry, and next-generation sequencing, to predict the set of tRNA modification genes responsible for tRNA maturation in two intracellular pathogens—Bartonella henselae Houston I and Bartonella quintana Toulouse, which are causative agents of cat-scratch disease and trench fever, respectively. This analysis presented challenges, particularly because of host RNA contamination, which served as a potential source of error. However, our approach predicted 26 genes responsible for synthesizing 23 distinct tRNA modifications...

Epidemiology of Bartonella henselae infection in pet and stray cats in Croatia with risk factors analysis
Cats are the primary reservoirs of the bacterium Bartonella henselae, the main cause of cat-scratch disease in humans. The main vector of the bacterium is the cat flea, Ctenocephalides felis. In southeastern Euro... (Source: Parasites and Vectors)

A case report of diagnosis of cat-scratch disease using metagenomic next-generation sequencing
We present the case of a middle-aged male patient who developed fever, chills, anal distension, dizziness, and muscle pain for 10 days. The patient had a documented history of cat bites 1 month prior to the onset of symptoms. Following admission, he underwent an examination to determine superficial lymphadenopathy and hypoimmunity. Additionally, he had a fever during the disease. As the patient refused a needle biopsy of lymph nodes, metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) was employed and B. henselae was detected in the peripheral blood. The patient was diagnosed with CSD and treated with a combination of azithromyc...

Pediatric Posterior Infectious Uveitis
CONCLUSION: Infectious posterior uveitis is a challenging subject and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any posterior uveitis in children. Infectious uveitis must be excluded before initiating immunosuppressive therapy.PMID:38096404 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2023.2284990 (Source: Ocular Immunology and Inflammation)

Detection of Bartonella bovis DNA in blood samples from a veterinarian in Mexico
Rev Inst Med Trop Sao Paulo. 2023 Dec 4;65:e62. doi: 10.1590/S1678-9946202365062. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe genus Bartonella encompasses 38 validated species of Gram-negative, facultative intracellular bacteria that colonize the endothelial cells and erythrocytes of a wide spectrum of mammals. To date, 12 Bartonella species have been recorded infecting humans, causing diseases of long historical characterization, such as cat scratch fever and trench fever, and emerging bartonellosis that mainly affect animal health professionals. For this reason, this study aimed to report a documented case of Bartonella bovis infecting...
