Fungal keratitis in Iran: Risk factors, clinical features, and mycological profile
This study was intended to investigate the clinical features and predisposing factors of fungal keratitis (FK), as well as molecular identification and antifungal susceptibility of causative agents in Tehran, Iran.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was carried out from April 2019 to May 2021. All fungi isolates were identified using conventional methods and were confirmed by DNA-PCR-based molecular assays. Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight (MALDI-TOF) was used to identify yeast species. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of eight antifungal agents were assessed according to the European Committ...

Multiresistant Candida Endophthalmitis Treated with Intravitreal Caspofungin: A Case Report
CONCLUSIONS: Intravitreal caspofungin could be a safe intravitreal alternative to habitual antimycotic drugs in cases with resistant candida endophthalmitis.Abbreviations: Intensive Care Unit (ICU); Best-Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA).PMID:36696576 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2023.2168701 (Source: Ocular Immunology and Inflammation)

A case of Candida metapsilosis conjunctivitis in a neonate admitted to the cardiac heart intensive care unit
We report the first case ofCandida conjunctivitis due toC. metapsilosis obtained from the eye discharge of a 40-day-old girl with congenital heart disease admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU). The yeast isolate was identified by sequencing the entire ITS1-5.8 rRNA-ITS2 region. Antifungal susceptibility testing performed according to the CLSI M27-A3 showed that the isolate was susceptible to amphotericin  B, fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, clotrimazole, nystatin, terbinafine, 5-fluorocytosine, and caspofungin. Differentiation of the fungal new species allows us the accurate diagnosis and treatment, a...
