Hookah responsible for over half of tobacco smoke inhaled by young smokers
(University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences) Smoking tobacco from a waterpipe, also known as a hookah, accounted for over half of the tobacco smoke volume consumed by young adult hookah and cigarette smokers in the US, a new University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine analysis discovered. New regimens improve survival for children and young adults with T-cell cancers
(American Society of Clinical Oncology) In a federally funded, randomized phase III clinical trial performed by the Children's Oncology Group (COG), 90 percent of children and young adults with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) or T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LL) were alive four years after starting treatment regimens on this trial, and 84 percent were cancer free. Quincy Mother Shares Skin Cancer Survival Story For Melanoma Monday
QUINCY (CBS) – On this Melanoma Monday dermatologists want to bring attention to skin cancer, the most common cancer in the United States.
Melanoma is the deadliest form but doctors say it is preventable and treatable if caught early. Katie Michaud, a young mother in Quincy, is well aware of that now. Michaud is grateful she can spend quality time with her two young children because not long ago, her future was uncertain.
“I saw my life flash before my eyes,” Katie told WBZ-TV.

Researchers use imaging technology to screen for colorectal cancer in young adults
(Boston Medical Center) Researchers at Boston Medical Center, in collaboration with Northwestern University, are using imaging technology to create an effective and inexpensive way to screen for colorectal cancer among young adults. The research is part of the R33 Cancer Moonshot Project, and is a 3 year $1.5 million grant from the National Cancer Institute. Once researchers create this test and achieve quality goals, they will begin a clinical trial, which can then lead to regulatory approval and launch in clinical practice.
