Effectiveness of and preference for a picture-based home office ergonomics assessment compared to a traditional in-person office ergonomics assessment: A case study from a Canadian University during the COVID-19 pandemic
Appl Ergon. 2024 Mar 21;118:104261. doi: 10.1016/j.apergo.2024.104261. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, telework best practices decreased in importance compared to the need for social distancing. It is important that ergonomics assessments for home office workstations are equally as effective as assessment for traditional offices to maintain teleworker wellbeing. The purpose of this case study is to compare a remote, picture-based, home office assessment to a traditional, in-person, office assessment for employees of one Canadian University. Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Al...

Spatial experience of cancer inpatients in the oncology wards: A qualitative study in visual design aspects
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that-apart from the last theme, promoting trustworthiness, the rest are in line with Ulrich's supportive design theory. Therefore, further research is needed to investigate "promoting trustworthiness" in the context of cancer wards. In addition, each aspect of the visual design framework can offer practical design recommendations for future studies.PMID:38518630 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2024.102552 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Triage tools for detecting cervical spine injury in paediatric trauma patients
CONCLUSIONS: There is insufficient evidence to determine the diagnostic test accuracy of CDRs to detect CSIs in children following blunt trauma, particularly for children under eight years of age. Although most studies had a high sensitivity, this was often achieved at the expense of low specificity and should be interpreted with caution due to a small number of CSIs and wide CIs. Well-designed, large studies are required to evaluate the accuracy of CDRs for the cervical spine clearance in children following blunt trauma, ideally in direct comparison with each other.PMID:38517085 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD011686.pub3 (Sourc...

Cronkhite-Canada syndrome with esophagus involvement and six-year follow-up: A case report
CONCLUSION: Comprehensive treatment led by hormonal therapy can result in partial or full remission of clinical symptoms. Treatment should be individualized for each patient according to their therapy response. A global analysis of the use of immunoglobulin, shortages in supply, and mitigating measures: A survey of hospital providers (a BEST Collaborative study)
DISCUSSION: As IG is the leading driver in plasma demand, more studies are needed to understand current and future demand for IG from the clinical perspective. Necessity lies in establishing clinical guidance to address shortages.PMID:38516758 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17801 (Source: Transfusion)

Next Generation Weight Loss Drugs for the Prevention of Cancer?
Conclusions: Pharmacologic intervention is not the ideal solution for the obesity-related cancer crisis. However, these agents and subsequent generations provide an additional tool to rapidly reduce body weight and adiposity in populations that have been extremely challenging to reduce weight with standard diet and exercise approaches. Additional research is needed around approaches to prevent initial weight gain and maintain long-term weight loss.PMID:38516742 | DOI:10.1177/10732748241241158 (Source: Cancer Control)

History of clinical intestinal transplantation
Hum Immunol. 2024 Mar 21:110788. doi: 10.1016/j.humimm.2024.110788. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe intestines have been considered the "forbidden organ" for years, and intestinal failure became the last organ failure recognized as such in the medical field. The impossibility of providing adequate nutritional support, turned these patients into recipients of just palliative comfort. In the 1960's, parenteral nutrition appeared as the most reasonable replacement therapy, but the initial success obtained with clinical kidney, heart, liver, lung and pancreas transplantation served as background to explore intestinal transpl...

Characterizing the impact of thermoregulation in patients after cardiac arrest: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: In this single-centre retrospective cohort study, low spontaneous core body temperature was associated with poor outcomes in patients after cardiac arrest. Patients with low spontaneous body temperature also exhibited features suggestive of impaired thermoregulation. Further research is needed to determine whether body temperature upon presentation reflects the robustness of the patient's underlying physiology and severity of brain insult after a cardiac arrest.PMID:38514524 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-024-02737-x (Source: Canadian Journal of Anaesthesia)
