Elucidation of the Transport Properties of Calcium ‐Doped High Entropy Rare Earth Aluminates for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Applications
In this study, the high entropy oxide (Gd,La,Nd,Pr,Sm)AlO3 is synthesized and doped with Ca. The Ca-doped (Gd,La,Nd,Pr,Sm)AlO3 compounds exhibit a higher ionic conductivity than most of the corresponding Ca-doped rare earth aluminates accompanied by a reduction of the p-type electronic conductivity contribution typically observed under oxidizing conditions. In light of these findings, this study introduces high entropy aluminates as a promising candidate for SOFC electrolytes. (Source: Small)

Monitoring the utilization and effectiveness of Iron and Vitamin D supplementations program and its predictive factors in high schools ’ girls in Qom, Iran
Conclusion:The inadequate and incomplete rate of IVDSP in Qom was high and more than 60% of distributed supplementations have been wasted. Our results showed that students who were participated in educational orientation classes were more successful and eager in iron and vitamin D3 consumption.  Therefore, it is recommended to increase interventions at individual, interpersonal, intra-organizational and inter-organizational levels in order to fully support the program and ultimately increase the efficiency of the program.  (Source: Journal of Preventive Medicine and Hygiene)

Quercetin alleviates chronic unpredictable mild stress-induced depression-like behavior by inhibiting NMDAR1 with α2δ-1 in rats
CONCLUSIONS: Que has a good antidepressant effect and can significantly improve the depression-like behavior caused by CUMS. It exerts antidepressant effects by inhibiting the expression level of α2δ-1, interfering with the interaction between α2δ-1 and NMDAR, and then reducing the excitability of the HPA axis.PMID:38615365 | PMC:PMC11016343 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14724 (Source: CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics)

CaMK4: Structure, physiological functions, and therapeutic potential
Biochem Pharmacol. 2024 Apr 12:116204. doi: 10.1016/j.bcp.2024.116204. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCalcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IV (CaMK4) is a versatile serine/threonine kinase involved in various cellular functions. It regulates T-cell differentiation, podocyte function, tumor cell proliferation/apoptosis, β cell mass, and insulin sensitivity. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are complex and remain incompletely understood. The aims of this review are to highlight the latest advances in the regulatory mechanisms of CaMK4 underlying T-cell imbalance and parenchymal cell mass in multiple diseas...

Neuroplastin splice variants Np55 and Np65: Who is doing the job in macrophages?
Mol Immunol. 2024 Apr 13;170:57-59. doi: 10.1016/j.molimm.2024.03.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNeuroplastin, a paralog of CD147/Basigin, is known as a neuronal cell adhesion molecule and as an auxiliary subunit of plasma membrane calcium ATPases in both neurons and adaptive immune cells. Recently, an interesting study by Ren et al. (2022) provided evidence for an important role of neuroplastin in macrophages during bacterial infection. Here, we critically discuss one aspect of this study, the assignment of this role to Np65 as one of two prominent splice variants of neuroplastin.PMID:38615628 | DOI:10.1016/j.molimm.2...

Effect of incorporating modified pinh ão starch in alginate-based hydrogel beads for encapsulation of bioactive compounds by hydrodynamic electrospray ionization jetting
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 12:131555. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131555. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTKnown for its antioxidant properties, Araucaria angustifolia bracts extract was encapsulated using hydrodynamic electrospray ionization jetting within calcium alginate cross-linked hydrogel beads with varying contents of modified pinhão starch. The rheological properties of the dispersions and analysis of the physicochemical and digestive properties of encapsulated beads were studied. The results demonstrated that dispersions containing starch exhibited higher viscosity and reduced compliance values, indicating samp...

Design, synthesis, and biological activity of D-bishomo-1 α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D < sub > 3 < /sub > analogs and their crystal structures with the vitamin D nuclear receptor
In this study, we present the synthesis of vitamin D derivatives characterized by an enlarged (seven-membered) ring D. Preparation of the designed vitamin D compounds required separate syntheses of crucial building blocks (C/D-rings fragments with side chain and rings A) which were combined by different methods, including Wittig-Horner reaction and Suzuki coupling. Biological activities of the target vitamin D analogs were assessed both in vitro and in vivo, demonstrating their significant potency compared to the natural hormone. Furthermore, the successful crystallization of these compounds with the vitamin D receptor (VD...

Systematic Review Article: New Drug Strategies for Treating Resistant Hypertension —the Importance of a Mechanistic, Personalized Approach
AbstractResistant hypertension (RHT) is characterized by persistently high blood pressure (BP) levels above the widely recommended therapeutic targets of less than 140/90 mmHg office BP, despite life-style measures and optimal medical therapies, including at least three antihypertensive drug classes at maximum tolerated dose (one should be a diuretic). This condition is strongly related to hypertension-mediated organ damage and, mostly, high risk of hospitalization due to hypertension emergencies or acute cardiovascular events. Hypertension guidelines proposed a triple combination therapy based on renin angiotensin system ...

Intravenous Administration of Recombinant Ph α1β: Antinociceptive Properties and Morphine Tolerance Reversal in a Cancer-Associated Pain Model
This study aims to assess the antinociceptive effects resulting from intravenous administration of the recombinant form of Phα1β (r-Phα1β) in an experimental model of cancer-related pain in mice, tolerant or not to morphine. The model of cancer-induced pain was used to evaluate these effects, with the injection of B16F10 cells, followed by the administration of the r-Phα1β, and evaluation of the mechanical threshold by the von Frey test. Also, adverse effects were assessed using a score scale, the rotarod, and open field tests. Results indicate that the administration of r-Phα1β provoked antinociception in animals ...
