Deciphering Anion-Modulated Solvation Structure for Calcium Intercalation into Graphite for Ca-Ion Batteries
This study, for the first time, elucidates the pivotal role of anions in modulating the Ca ion solvation structures and their subsequent intercalation into graphite. Specifically, the electrostatic interactions between Ca ion and anions govern the configurations of solvated-Ca-ion in dimethylacetamide-based electrolytes and graphite intercalation compounds. Among the anions considered (BH4-, ClO4-, TFSI- and [B(hfip)4]-), the coordination of four solvent molecules per Ca ion (CN=4) leads to the highest reversible capacities and the fastest reaction kinetics in graphite. Our study illuminates the origins of the distinct Ca ...

Positive Vasoreactivity Testing in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Therapeutic Consequences, Treatment Patterns, and Outcomes in the Modern Management Era
CONCLUSIONS: Our data display heterogeneity within the group of vasoresponders, with a large subset failing to show a sustained satisfactory clinical response to CCBs. This highlights the necessity for comprehensive reassessment during early follow-up. The use of pulmonary artery compliance in addition to current measures may better identify those likely to have a good long-term response.PMID:38606558 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.122.063821 (Source: Circulation)

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2479: The Strong Coupling Effect between Metallic Split-Ring Resonators and Molecular Vibrations in Polymethyl Methacrylate
a Han We propose and study a nanoscale strong coupling effect between metamaterials and polymer molecular vibrations using metallic split-ring resonators (SRRs). Specifically, we first provided a numerical investigation of the SRR design, which was followed by an experimental demonstration of strong coupling between mid-infrared magnetic dipole resonance supported by the SRRs fabricated on a calcium fluoride substrate and polymethyl methacrylate molecular vibrations at 1730 cm−1. Characterized by the anti-crossing feature and spectral splitting behaviors in the transmission spectra, these results demonstr...

Non-ionotropic voltage-gated calcium channel signaling
Channels (Austin). 2024 Dec;18(1):2341077. doi: 10.1080/19336950.2024.2341077. Epub 2024 Apr 11.ABSTRACTVoltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) are the major conduits for calcium ions (Ca2+) within excitable cells. Recent studies have highlighted the non-ionotropic functionality of VGCCs, revealing their capacity to activate intracellular pathways independently of ion flow. This non-ionotropic signaling mode plays a pivotal role in excitation-coupling processes, including gene transcription through excitation-transcription (ET), synaptic transmission via excitation-secretion (ES), and cardiac contraction through excitation-...

Transient stimulation of TRPMLs enhance the functionality of hDPCs and facilitate hair growth in mice
Cell Signal. 2024 Apr 9:111167. doi: 10.1016/j.cellsig.2024.111167. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAutophagy is essential for eliminating aging and organelle damage that maintaining cellular homeostasis. However, the dysfunction of autophagy has been proven in hair loss such as AGA. Despite the crucial role of TRPML channels in regulating autophagy, their specific function in hair growth remains unclarified. To investigate the biological functions and associated molecular mechanisms of TRPMLs in hair growth, Animal experiments were conducted to confirm the function of TRLMLs activation in promoting hair growth. Subsequently...

Modulatory interactions of T-2 and deoxynivalenol mycotoxins on murine femoral development and osteological integrity
In this study, we conducted a systematic assessment of the effectsof Deoxynivalenol (DON) and T-2 mycotoxins on the developmental processes and structural integrity of murine femurs, considering both the isolated and synergistic effects of these toxins. To this end, we divided 72 male mice into nine groups, each subjected to varying dosages of T-2, DON, or their combinations. Over a four-week experimental period, meticulous monitoring was undertaken regarding the mice's body weight, biochemical markers of bone formation and resorption, and the activity of relevant cells. To comprehensively evaluate alterations in bone stru...
