The Biggest Loser: Your Metabolism and Your Faith
There's a lot of heavy, depressing news following the release of a study that looks at the regain of weight by most of the Biggest Loser contestants. As a dietitian who has worked in weight loss efforts -- patients in my office, bariatric center at Cedars-Sinai, and who was the on-air dietitian for 3 reality shows including Shedding for the Wedding from the BL production team, I must weigh in as the results -- while not surprising -- are mostly not being interpreted in a helpful or healthful way, and instead I'm hearing victim-speak such as "no wonder I can't lose weight, I've got Biggest Loser metabolism issues." What the Fork Are My Kids Eating?
© Evgeny Ustyuzhanin The other day my younger son came home from school with a green lollipop in his mouth. "Where did you get this?" I asked. "From our treasure box at school Mom," he replied with a little too much sass for my liking. Despite the fact that I provided his teacher with ample supply of Hunter-safe junk (apparently she ran out) and my child is very clear on what he can and can't have, he always pushes the limit. But he's a...

2 Killer Broccoli Recipes For People Who Don't Like Vegetables
Vegetables: For the most part, I really just don't like them. But I've decided to try and change that, one simple, (hopefully) tasty recipe at a time. Follow along with my series of experiments -- in which I'll take on kale, cauliflower, spinach and more -- over the coming weeks! For my first foray into More Intentional Vegetable Cooking this year, I chose to focus on broccoli. Why? That's a question I definitely asked myself repeatedly over the past few weeks, as I procrastinated and put off making recipes with this, one of my least favorite ingredients. When I made a resolution to cook more vegetables, I p...
