Incidental Gynecologic Tract Neoplasms in Women Undergoing Anterior Pelvic Exenteration for Urothelial Carcinoma
This study is aimed to assess the prevalence of unanticipated gynecologic neoplasms in anterior pelvic exenteration specimens. A retrospective review of pathology reports to identify women undergoing anterior pelvic exenteration for UC was performed (N=221), and incidentally discovered gynecologic tract neoplasms were recorded. Concomitant malignant or premalignant lesions of the gynecologic tract were identified in 8 patients (3.6%). These included endometrial adenocarcinoma [endometrioid type, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics grade 1 (n=2, 0.9%)], cervical high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (...

Malignant Brenner tumor: Two case reports
We report two cases of ovarian MBT, detailing the clinical presentation, radiographic characteristics, and histologic findings with supplementary imaging. Our cases demonstrate the pathologic challenge of histologically diagnosing MBT versus other Brenner tumors and transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the ovary. (Source: Case Reports in Womens Health)

An 80 year old hermaphroditic with Hugh Brenner Tumour: a Rare Case Report and Review
ConclusionThe morphological expression of a true hermaphroditism is an “ovotestis” which can be classified into three different categories and require a tissue biopsy for confirmation. The association of a Brenner tumour in a hermaphroditic patient makes this report a significant contribution to human sexual differentiation literature. (Source: African Journal of Urology)

Computed tomography imaging features of benign ovarian Brenner tumors.
Authors: Zhao Y, Mao X, Yao L, Shen J Abstract The present study aimed to describe the computed tomography (CT) imaging features of ovarian Brenner tumor for diagnostic accuracy and disease understanding. The CT imaging features of 9 cases of ovarian Brenner tumor confirmed by surgery and pathology were retrospectively analyzed and compared. Of the 9 cases of ovarian Brenner tumor, 3 were right located and 6 were left located with clear borders; 7 with round or oval shapes, while 2 were with irregular and lobulated morphology; 5 solid lesions presented with multiple scattered calcification shadows inside w...

A case report of an incidental Brenner tumor found after resection of a large ovarian mucinous neoplasm
ConclusionFurther investigation is required to determine whether associated Brenner tumors found during frozen section are more highly associated with malignancy and could therefore change intraoperative and overall decision making. (Source: International Journal of Surgery Case Reports)

Ovarian borderline mucinous tumor with squamous overgrowth: An unusual finding with review of literature.
Abstract Borderline mucinous tumor (BMT) is often associated with other entities such as dermoid cyst, Brenner tumor, and endometriosis. Squamous areas are often associated which may be a part of BMT or its associated conditions. Here, we describe squamous overgrowth in a case of intestinal type of mucinous borderline tumor in a 29-year-old uniparous female and discuss the diagnostic difficulties. Ovarian torsion of mixed epithelial tumor misdiagnosed as a malignancy in postmenopausal woman: A case report
We report a case of ovarian torsion with mixed epithelial tumor misdiagnosed as a malignancy in postmenopausal woman. Patient concerns: A 65-year-old woman presented lower left abdominal pain, and there was slight abdominal distension, but no tenderness or rebound tenderness on abdominal palpation. Diagnoses: Radiologic assessments showed a huge multiseptated cystic mass with solid portion in the left ovary, and malignancy was suspected. The test for serum tumor markers revealed normal levels of cancer antigen 125 (CA-125). Interventions: The patient underwent a laparotomy and there was torsion of the left ovary. We con...

Surgical Findings and Outcomes in Premenopausal Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Oophorectomy: a Multicenter Review From the Fellows' Pelvic Research Network
Conclusion Gynecologic surgeons often perform castration oophorectomy in breast cancer patients as more oncologists adopt aromatase inhibitors for treatment of premenopausal breast cancers. Our data suggests other abdominal/pelvic cancers, precancerous conditions, and previously unrecognized metastatic disease are not uncommon findings in this patient population. The gynecologist serving this patient population may consider careful abdominal survey, pelvic washings, endometrial sampling, and request serial sectioning of fallopian tube specimens for a thorough evaluation. Malignant Brenner tumor of the ovary: Review and case report
Publication date: Available online 3 July 2017 Source:Gynecologic Oncology Reports Author(s): Susan M. Lang, Anne M. Mills, Leigh A. Cantrell Ovarian neoplasms are a heterogeneous group of tumors with varying incidence in the general population. The most common are the surface epithelial tumors which include transitional cell tumors. Transitional cell tumors include both transitional cell carcinoma and Brenner tumor. The vast majority of Brenner tumors are benign, often incidental findings; however, malignant Brenner tumors (MBT) do occasionally occur. MBT present similarly to other ovarian neoplasms with abdominal pa...

Mutational Profiles of Brenner Tumors show Distinctive Features Uncoupling Urothelial Carcinomas and Ovarian Carcinoma with Transitional Cell Histology
In conclusion, our study highlights distinct genetic features of BTs, and detection of the triplet phenotype MDM2 amplification/TP53 wt/TERT wt may aid diagnosis of malignant BT in difficult cases. Moreover, selected genetic lesions may be clinically exploitable in a metastatic setting. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Genes, Chromosomes and Cancer)
