Clinical implementation of failure modes and effects analysis for gynecological high-dose-rate brachytherapy
CONCLUSIONS: Failure modes and effects analysis is a prospective risk-based tool that can identity high-risk steps before failures occur, provide preventive measures to stop their occurrence, and improve quality management system.PMID:38584884 | PMC:PMC10993892 | DOI:10.5114/jcb.2024.136295 (Source: Journal of Contemporary Brachytherapy)

Feasibility and clinical implementation of MRI-guided surface brachytherapy
CONCLUSIONS: The sub-millimeter accuracy of dwell positions and high DSC's (> 0.95) of the phantom demonstrated that digitization was clinically acceptable, and accurate treatment plans were produced using MR-only imaging. This novel approach, MRI-guided SABT, will lead to individualized prescriptions for potentially improved patient outcomes.PMID:38584885 | PMC:PMC10993898 | DOI:10.5114/jcb.2024.135647 (Source: Journal of Contemporary Brachytherapy)

Urinary tract symptoms that should be improved to enhance post-operative urinary quality of life in patients treated with low-dose-rate brachytherapy for prostate cancer: An importance-performance analysis
CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the importance of prioritizing specific lower urinary tract symptoms for improvement in post-operative urinary quality of life, and identifies the associated factors that can help in personalized treatment planning and goal-setting for better patient satisfaction.PMID:38584886 | PMC:PMC10993896 | DOI:10.5114/jcb.2024.135646 (Source: Journal of Contemporary Brachytherapy)

SABR-Dual: a phase II/III trial of two-fraction versus five-fraction stereotactic radiotherapy for localized low- and favorable intermediate-risk prostate cancer
This study aims to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and non-inferiority of generalizable 2-fraction SABR compared to the current 5-fraction regimen.METHODS: 502 patients will be enrolled on this phase II/III randomized control trial. Eligible patients will have previously untreated low- or favorable intermediate-risk adenocarcinoma of the prostate. Patients will be randomized between standard SABR of 40 Gy in 5 fractions given every-other-day and 27 Gy in 2 fractions at least two days apart but completing within seven days. MRI-based planning, radiopaque hydrogel spacer insertion, and fiducial marker placement are required, ...

Brachytherapy for rhabdomyosarcoma: Survey of international clinical practice and development of guidelines
CONCLUSIONS: Consensus guidelines for the use of brachytherapy in pediatric rhabdomyosarcoma have been developed through multicenter collaboration establishing the basis for future work. These have been adopted for the open EpSSG overarching study for children and adults with Frontline and Relapsed RhabdoMyoSarcoma (FaR-RMS).PMID:38588921 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110273 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)
