Pliability, elasticity of skin increase following wrinkle treatment with Botox
Human skin has three biomechanical features: strength, pliability (the ability to stretch) and elasticity (the ability to recoil). As people age, these properties change and the loss of skin elasticity appears to be the most prominent. Now researchers report that skin pliability and elasticity improved after treatment with onabotulinum toxin (Botox) for mild facial wrinkles, and the effect lasted for up to four months. Injection To Melt Double-Chin Fat Approved By FDA
NEW YORK (AP) — The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it approved an injection designed to melt away double-chin fat. The agency approved a drug called Kybella for adults with moderate or severe fat below the chin, or submental fat. It's the first approved drug for Kythera Biopharmaceuticals. The drug is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a chemical the FDA said is naturally produced by the body and helps it absorb fats. It destroys fat cells by breaking down the cell membrane. The agency says patients can get up to 50 injections in one sitting, but treatments should be at least one ...

Spinal surgery for spasticity: How Adam got to like his legs again
Adam gets reassured just before surgery. Adam Pendergrass used to trip and fall dozens of times a day. “Every pair of pants we have has holes in the knees,” says his mother, Dahlia. “But Adam falls really well. He would stand up, shake himself off and say, ‘I’m OK!’” At preschool, Adam couldn’t sit crisscross on the floor. He walked with a crouched gait, and to climb the stairs, he had to hold the railing and lift one foot at a time. But none of this was a big deal at first. He knew he had something called cerebral palsy, but it was OK. All the kids at preschool wanted to try...

Common anticholinergic drugs like Benadryl linked to increased dementia risk
This study is another reminder to periodically evaluate the all drugs you’re taking. Look at each one to determine if it’s really helping,” says Dr. Sarah Berry, a geriatrician and assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. “I’ve seen people who have been on anticholinergic medications for bladder control for years and they are completely incontinent. These drugs obviously aren’t helping.” Many drugs have a stronger effect on older people than younger people.
