An algorithm for the pre-operative differentiation of benign ovarian tumours based on magnetic resonance imaging interpretation in a regional core hospital: A retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Among four types of OTs (OEC, OMCT, OEA and OCCA), MRI interpretation was able to differentiate between Be-OTs and Bo/Ma-OTs almost perfectly. Additionally, to mitigate the difficulty in differentiating SM-OTs, OT size may be useful in combination with MRI findings, although further accumulation and analysis of OT cases is needed.PMID:38058586 | PMC:PMC10696378 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100260 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

Clinicopathological and Oncological Outcomes of Borderline Mucinous Tumours of Ovary: a Large Case Series
The objective is to study the clinico-demographic profile, treatment patterns and oncological outcomes in borderline mucinous tumours of the ovary. Retrospective cohort analysis was carried out between January 2017 and December 2019 for patients with a diagnosis of borderline mucinous tumours of the ovary who were treated at our centre. Kaplan –Meier method was used for the estimation of the probability of DFS and OS. Univariate and multivariate analyses based on the Cox proportional hazard model were performed to identify factors associated with DFS and OS. Ap-value  ≤ 0.05 in a two-tailed test was considered stat...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 5327: Fertility and Pregnancy Outcomes after Fertility-Sparing Surgery for Early-Stage Borderline Ovarian Tumors and Epithelial Ovarian Cancer: A Single-Center Study
This study examined treatment outcomes, including preserved fertility, menstrual regularity, and pregnancy outcomes, in patients with stage I epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) or borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) who underwent fertility-sparing surgery (FSS). Patients with stage I EOC and BOTs who were aged 18–45 years and underwent FSS between 2007 and 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Significant differences between various subgroups in terms of disease recurrence, menstrual irregularity due to the disease, and pregnancy outcomes were analyzed. A total of 71 patients with BOTs and 33 patients with EOC were i...

GSE245725 Double ratio of microRNA signatures as promising diagnosis biomarkers for mucinous borderline and malignant ovarian tumors
In this study, miRNA expres-sion profiling generates using FFPE patient samples followed by qRT-PCR validation allows to identify 10 down-regulated and 5 up-regulated miRNAs between Malignant and Borderline tumors. To overcome issues linked to data normalization and to improve the accuracy of the results, a ratio analysis combining up-regulated and down-regulated miRNAs was used. Alt-hough 21/50 miRNA expression ratio were significantly different between Malignant and Bor-derline tumor samples, any ratio could perfectly discriminate the two groups. However, a combination of 14 miRNAs expression ratio (double ratio) showed ...

Coexisting ovarian serous cystadenoma with fibroma: A very unusual combination
J Cancer Res Ther. 2023 Jul-Sep;19(5):1474-1476. doi: 10.4103/jcrt.jcrt_2319_21.ABSTRACTSurface epithelial neoplasms are the most common ovarian tumors, constituting around 60% of all ovarian malignancies. They are classified as benign, borderline, and malignant. Ovarian cystadenomas are common benign epithelial neoplasms which carry an excellent prognosis. Ovarian thecoma-fibroma groups are uncommon sex cord-stromal neoplasms, constituting 1.0%-4.0% of all ovarian tumors. Most of them are benign and often found in postmenopausal patients. Combination tumors in the ovary are known. The most common combination is mucinous c...

Borderline Brenner tumor of the ovary with mucinous metaplasia: A case report
Borderline Brenner tumor of the ovary Key Clinical MessageTo date, there have been disparate reports regarding borderline forms of Brenner tumors, while research on concomitant mucinous proliferation is even more irregular; however, it has been observed that proper diagnosis and treatment have proven to have a favorable prognosis on the aforementioned tumor.AbstractBrenner tumor is a rare epithelial ovarian neoplasm responsible for 2% –3% of all ovarian tumors. These tumors are usually asymptomatic and can usually be found incidentally in pathological studies. They can also manifest themselves as abdominal pain or abnorm...

Diagnostic roles of PAX8 immunohistochemistry in ovarian tumors
CONCLUSION: PAX8 expression rate was significantly higher in serous ovarian tumors than in mucinous ovarian tumors. In addition, PAX8 expression rates were significantly higher in primary ovarian cancers than in metastatic carcinomas.PMID:37742476 | DOI:10.1016/j.prp.2023.154822 (Source: Cell Research)

Immunohistochemical expression of PRAME in 485 cases of epithelial tubo-ovarian tumors
We examined 485 cases of epithelial tubo-ovarian tumors including 107 clear cell carcinomas (CCC), 52 endometroid carcinomas (EC), 103 high grade serous carcinomas (HGSC), 119 low grade serous carcinomas (LGSC)/micropapillary variant of serous borderline tumors (mSBT), and 104 cases of mucinous carcinomas (MC)/mucinous borderline tumors (MBT). The immunohistochemical analysis was performed using TMAs.The highest levels of expression were seen in EC (60%), HGSC (62%), and CCC (56%), while expression in LGSC/mSBT (4%) and MC/MBT (2%) was rare. The clinico-pathologic correlations and survival analysis showed no prognostic sig...

Molecular Status of < em > BRAF < /em > Mutation in Epithelial Ovarian Cancer: An Analysis of 57 Cases in the Northeast of Iran
CONCLUSION: The BRAF mutation is most frequent in borderline tumors but not in invasive serous carcinomas. It seems that 2 different pathways exist for the development of ovarian epithelial neoplasms: one for borderline tumors and the other for high-grade invasive carcinomas. Our study supports this hypothesis. The BRAF mutation is rare in mucinous neoplasms.PMID:37600581 | PMC:PMC10439751 | DOI:10.30699/IJP.2023.554750.2907 (Source: Cancer Control)

A mural nodule of anaplastic carcinoma with sarcomatoid differentiation in a background of ovarian borderline mucinous cystadenoma
Ecancermedicalscience. 2023 Jun 5;17:1557. doi: 10.3332/ecancer.2023.1557. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTOvarian mucinous cystic tumours with mural nodules are rare tumours of the ovary that are often missed out during diagnosis. They are classified under the ovarian mucinous surface epithelial-stromal tumours. These mural nodules can be sarcoma-like (benign), anaplastic carcinoma, sarcomas, or mixed malignant (carcinosarcoma). However, very few cases of anaplastic malignant mural nodules have been reported. Here, we present a case of a borderline ovarian mucinous cystadenoma with anaplastic mural nodule that has sarcomatoid di...
