Effect of Body Composition on Graft Function and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Normotensive Renal Transplant Recipients
CONCLUSIONS: Lean body mass significantly influences left ventricular mass index and renal resistive index. Hence, body composition analysis could be an early predictor of graft function and cardiovascular outcomes in normotensive renal transplant recipients.PMID:38511981 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0192 (Source: Experimental and Clinical Transplantation : official journal of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation)

Does surgical technique influence graft extrusion following meniscal allograft transplantation – a systematic review
To provide an update on the incidence and extent of graft extrusion following meniscus allograft transplantation (MAT) and to systematically review the literature to identify if the type of root fixation or additional surgical techniques may reduce the risk of developing graft extrusion. Normothermic Preservation of the Intestinal Allograft
Intestinal allotransplantation was first described in the 1960s and successfully performed in the 1980s. Since that time, less progress has been made in the preservation of the allograft before transplantation and static cold storage remains the current standard. Normothermic machine perfusion represents an opportunity to simultaneously preserve, assess, and recondition the organ for transplantation and improve the procurement radius for allografts. The substantial progress made in the field during the last 60  years, coupled with the success of the preclinical animal model of machine perfusion-preserved intestinal transp...

Surgical Management of Secondary and Tertiary Hyperparathyroidism
Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) often arises from kidney disease and is characterized by elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. The reported optimal PTH level to balance the compensatory physiologic response in SHPT with the pathologic morbidity and mortality has changed over time with our evolving understanding. Parathyroidectomy for kidney-related hyperparathyroidism requires consideration of the patient ’s dialysis status, potential for kidney transplantation, and medical history. Extent of parathyroidectomy and intraoperative decision-making requires consideration to maximize cure with the risk of permanent ...

Fascia lata autografts achieve interface healing with the supraspinatus muscle histologically and mechanically in a rat supraspinatus tendon reconstruction model for massive irreparable rotator cuff tears
To evaluate the histologic healing process and mechanical characteristics of the interface between a fascia lata autograft and supraspinatus muscle by establishing a supraspinatus tendon reconstruction model for chronic massive, irreparable rotator cuff tears (MIRCTs). Nonvascularized Bone Grafting for Scaphoid Nonunion
Conclusions The literature does not demonstrate a difference in union rates when comparing the use of vascularized and non-vascularized grafts for scaphoid nonunions. When the proximal pole of the scaphoid can be salvaged, the choice of fixation is left to the surgeon's discretion. 3D-printed nanohydroxyapatite/methylacrylylated silk fibroin scaffold for repairing rat skull defects
The repair of bone defects remains a major challenge in the clinic, and treatment requires bone grafts or bone replacement materials. Existing biomaterials have many limitations and cannot meet the various nee... (Source: Journal of Biological Engineering)

Mesentero-Portal Venous Bypass With Same-Donor Iliac Artery Graft During Living Donor Liver Transplantation
Reconstructing the portal vein becomes crucial in long-segmental, thrombosed, and severely damaged portal veins during living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). When portal vein thrombosis extends beyond the spleno-mesenteric junction and performing a thromboendovenectomy followed by portal vein interposition is impossible, the mesentero-portal venous bypass (MPVB) becomes mandatory. Interestingly, a ‘same-donor’ iliac artery allograft (SDIAA) has never been utilized as a conduit in this context. (Source: Journal of Vascular Surgery)

PCR testing for herpesviruses in aqueous humor samples from patients with and without clinical corneal endothelial graft rejection
J Med Virol. 2024 Mar;96(3):e29538. doi: 10.1002/jmv.29538.ABSTRACTTo compare prevalence of positive PCR tests for herpesviruses between patients with and without a history of clinical corneal endothelial allograft rejection (AGR). Retrospective cross-sectional study with two-group comparison. A total of 307 aqueous humor (AH) samples from 235 Patients and 244 eyes who underwent penetrating keratoplasty or Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty or had a diagnostic AH aspiration due to clinical AGR between 2019 and 2023 were tested for DNA of herpes simplex virus (HSV), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), cytomegalovirus (CMV...

Clinical Results of Nonvascularized Metatarsal Articular Bone Grafting for Osteochondral Defects of the Radiocarpal and Distal Radioulnar Joint
Conclusion Retrospective evaluation of 10 cases with resurfacing of the scaphoid facet, sigmoid notch, and/or lunate facet, or radial part of the ulnar head has shown that osseointegration was possible without a vascular pedicle to the graft in all cases with a (mean) follow-up of 5 years. This technique may become an alternative treatment when implants become less available. Level of Evidence Level III.PMID:38505203 | PMC:PMC10948242 | DOI:10.1055/s-0043-1768923 (Source: Hand Surgery)
