Combining Radiology & Physics in a Single Photograph
"The recent photograph of a black hole captured using various telescopes, complicated algorithms and data from NASA ’s Chandra X-Ray Observatory, I was intrigued that how X-rays can be used to see inside our bodies as well as to visualize celestial marvels.  This made me think that how sometimes the things which we don ’t know yet or the things which came into notice accidentally can help unravel so many more mysteries in the future. So, I thought of combining the two most iconic pictures in radiology and physics."Submitted by Aditya Saini, medical student from AIIMS Raipur.Famous Radiology Blog http://www.sumerdo...

De Quervain Tenosynovitis: MRI
Discussion –Clinically – h/o of repetitive overuse and sustained thumb abduction and extension in combination with radial and ulnar wrist movements in the dominant hand as usually seen in workplace activities / carrying babies/ sports related with associated soft tissue swelling in the radial side of wrist.Classic de Quervain ’s tenosynovitis includes chronic inflammation scar formation with stenosis of the approximately 1-cm-long fibroosseous tunnel of the first dorsal compartment (the groove along the radial styloid process covered by the overlying extensor retinaculum through which the abductor pollicis longu...

Snake Bite and Radiology
Discussion-Local manifestations of snake bite are soft-tissue swelling from edema, necrosis, and hemorrhage. Common long-term sequelae of envenomation is soft-tissue atrophy distal to the bite, particularly in the digits.-Systemic signs and symptoms after a venomous snake bite are due to anticoagulant/procoagulant activity or neurotoxicity. Cerebral hypoxia can occur due to hypotensive shock that may accompany some snake bite envenomations. Neuromuscular disorders with damage of the peripheral nervous system can with blockage of synaptic transmission, at either presynaptic or postsynaptic levels.Common neuro...

Brain abscess: Intracradiac Shunt
Case Report : 55 year old female presented with left sided focal seizures.  On examination, she had mild pyramidal weakness of left upper and lower limbs. Left plantar was extensor. There was cortical sensory loss on left upper and lower limbs. CVS examination  showed loud P2 and Ejection systolic murmur over the pulmonary area.  On MRI there is smooth ring enhancing lesion, which appeared bright on DW-MRI suggesting abscess. CXR and CT chest showed grossly dilated main pulmonary artery as well as branches. Echo showed ostium secundum ASD with  intracardiac shunt and moderately severe pulmonary art...

Bilateral ICA block: MRI
Case Report 76 yrs old female pt. presets for MR brain angio with c/o giddiness of long duration.MRA shows– marked narrowing& grossly reduced flow signal of both ICA in carotid canal with complete absence of cavernous ICA with source images suggesting right PCOM feeding ipsilateral MCA& left MCA possibly filling from right side. Both MCA are grossly reduced in caliber with origins not identified along with poorly visualized both ACA& ACOM.Dominant grossly tortuous& atheromatous vertebral system with basilar artery suggesting tortuosity/atheromatous looping / redundancy with both PCA normal ...

Neurogenic tumor: Teaching Points
Discussion –Peripheral nerve sheath tumors consist of neurofibromas and schwannomas in the benign category& malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) in malignant category.Imaging features and signs that help to identify and characterize a nerve sheath tumor are, distribution of the tumor along a major nerve, an entering or exiting nerve sign, target sign, a fascicular sign and a split-fat sign.-         Distribution of the lesion along the course of the nerve is most important feature. Benign lesions may be located along the cutaneous or deep nerves, however, their ...
