Persistent need for ongoing medical or surgical therapy despite UroLift: Data from an academic center
CONCLUSIONS: Most men undergoing PUL require ongoing medical and/or surgical management for BPH. Patients should be counseled as to the likelihood of failure as a unimodal therapy long-term.PMID:37787590 | DOI:10.5489/cuaj.8394 (Source: Canadian Urological Association Journal)

The physiology of bladder dysfunction as well as medical interventions employed to efficiently empty the bladder and lower bladder pressures contribute to the formation of stones. In this paper, we aim to review the literature concerning bladder stone pathophysiology, prevention, surveillance, and surgical management for pediatric patients suffering from neurogenic bladder.Recent FindingsHistorical data has provided the basis of our understanding of pat...

Intermittent self-catheterization training and effects on treatment adherence and infection
CONCLUSIONS: The timing of CISC education does not affect treatment adherence or the occurrence of complications. However, the adherence to the CISC prescription seems to reduce the risk of infection.CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: Patient training can be scheduled according to the organization of the centers, as patient compliance and the occurrence of complications are not affected.PMID:37750862 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.23.08008-5 (Source: European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine)

A case of emphysematous pyelonephritis in an older man with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus
We present the case of a 75-year-old man who was diagnosed early with EPN and received multidisciplinary treatment. He had poorly controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD), and was treated with oral hypoglycemic drugs, including a sodium –glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitor. He experienced the onset of back pain in the midsection of his back, tenderness in the costovertebral angle, and a high fever (>  39 °C), accompanied by tachycardia, hypotension, and tachypnea. The patient was diagnosed with pyelonephritis and septic shock. Immediate measures encompassing empirical antibiotic the...

Clinical impact of detrusor muscle in en bloc resection for T1 bladder cancer
CONCLUSIONS: In ERBT, surgeon's experience seems irrelevant to obtain DM. Resection quality relies on surgical margin status, not the degree of DM. Obtaining excessive DM incurs adverse events/unnecessary medical care.PMID:37714725 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.08.004 (Source: Urologic Oncology)
