Scaling Supercapacitive Swing Adsorption of CO2 Using Bipolar Electrode Stacks
Supercapacitive swing adsorption modules can be scaled via the stacking of bipolar electrodes. The increase in the number of cells within the stack leads to a decrease in energy consumption without negatively influencing the adsorptive performance. AbstractSupercapacitive swing adsorption (SSA) modules with bipolar stacks having 2, 4, 8, and 12 electrode pairs made from BPL 4 × 6 activated carbon are constructed and tested for carbon dioxide capture applications. Tests are performed with simulated flue gas (15%CO2 /85%N2) at 2, 4, 8, and 12  V, respectively. Reversible adsorption with sorption capacities (≈58 mmol kg...

Antiparallel microtubule bundling supports KIF15-driven mitotic spindle assembly
Mol Biol Cell. 2024 Apr 10:mbcE24010023. doi: 10.1091/mbc.E24-01-0023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe spindle is a bipolar microtubule-based machine that is crucial for accurate chromosome segregation. Spindle bipolarity is generated by Eg5 (a kinesin-5), a conserved motor that drives spindle assembly by localizing to and sliding apart antiparallel microtubules. In the presence of Eg5 inhibitors (K5Is), KIF15 (a kinesin-12) can promote spindle assembly, resulting in K5I-resistant cells (KIRCs). However, KIF15 is a less potent motor than Eg5, suggesting that other factors may contribute to spindle formation in KIRCs. Pro...

Treating Bipolar Depression Using Psilocybin —Validity Threats Regarding Efficacy and Safety
To the Editor According to the study protocol, the recently published study by Aaronson et al was carried out “to assess effectiveness of 25 mg of psilocybin in [15] patients with treatment-resistant type 2 bipolar depression.” We see 3 concerns. (Source: JAMA Psychiatry)

Treating Bipolar Depression Using Psilocybin —Validity Threats Regarding Efficacy and Safety—Reply
In Reply We thank Fried et al for their thoughtful remarks about our article. The first issue they raised concerned the description of our study as a nonrandomized controlled trial. This could be problematic, as there was no comparator group or other control for non-specific effects. However, the nature of the study design was clearly described in the article and the accompanying editorial, which stated, “Aaronson and colleagues present an important step forward in this single-arm open-label study of psilocybin in patients with bipolar II depression.” We elected to use the phrase “controlled trial” to reflect the s...

Effects of seasonality in emergency admissions for mental disorders: two years of clinical experience
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study highlight a critical association between the incidence of seasonal heatwaves and an uptick in ED visits for psychiatric disorders, with a distinct impact on severe cases. It underscores the urgency for healthcare systems to anticipate seasonal fluctuations in psychiatric ED admissions and to allocate resources effectively to support patients during peak periods.PMID:38588530 | DOI:10.1080/13651501.2024.2331481 (Source: International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice)

Electrokinetically-delivered persulfate coupled with thermal conductive heating for remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons contaminated low permeability soil
In this study, electrokinetically-delivered persulfate (PS) coupled with thermal conductive heating (TCH) method was proposed for the remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHs) contaminated low-permeability soil, based on the investigation of PS injection and activation by different electric field form, effective heating radius of TCH to activate PS, and their influencing factors. The uniform delivery and effective activation of PS were unrealizable by one-dimensional electric field (1 V/cm) with the operation of cathode injection, anode injection, bipolar injection, polarity-reversal, or bipolar injection coupled polarit...
