Lassa Fever – Benin
On 25 January 2016, the National IHR Focal Point of Benin notified WHO of an outbreak of Lassa fever. The outbreak was initially detected on 21 January following reports of unexplained fever within a cluster of health workers from the district of Tchaourou, Borgou department. On 3 January, these health workers provided care to a patient suffering from haemorrhagic fever. (Source: WHO Disease Outbreaks)

In Benin, Unmet Need for Modern Contraception Remains High Despite Having Been Identified as a National Priority
Many Beninese women who want to avoid pregnancy are not using a modern contraceptive method, according to a new study released today by the Guttmacher Institute and the Association Béninoise pour le Marketing Social et la Communication pour la Santé, a network member of Population Services International. The researchers found that, as of 2012, one-third of married women and half of all sexually active unmarried women have an unmet need for contraception.
