A protocol for harvesting biodiversity data from Facebook
We present how to structure keywords, search for species photographs, and georeference localities for such records. We further highlight some challenges users might face when extracting species distribution data from Facebook and suggest solutions. Following our proposed framework, we present a case study on Bangladesh's biodiversity-a tropical megadiverse South Asian country. We scraped nearly 45,000 unique georeferenced records across 967 species and found a median of 27 records per species. About 12% of the distribution data were for threatened species, representing 27% of all species. We also obtained data for 56 DataD...

Spatial analysis of COVID-19 risk factors: a case study in Bangladesh
AbstractIn 2019, the world grappled with an unexpected and severe global health crisis —the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, which significantly impacted various aspects of human life. This case study, focusing on Bangladesh, aimed to uncover the complex spatial patterns and potential risk factors influencing the virus’s uneven spread across 64 districts. To analyze spatia l patterns, two techniques, namely MoranI and GearyC, were employed to study spatial autocorrelation. Hotspots and coldspots were identified using local MoranI, while spatial hotspots were pinpointed using local Getis OrdG. Exploring spatial ...

Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth is associated with increased < i > Campylobacter < /i > and epithelial injury in duodenal biopsies of Bangladeshi children
by Shah Mohammad Fahim, Jeffrey R. Donowitz, Ekaterina Smirnova, Ning-Juin Jan, Subhasish Das, Mustafa Mahfuz, S. M. Abdul Gaffar, William A. Petri Jr, Chelsea Marie, Tahmeed Ahmed Small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) has been associated with enteric inflammation, linear growth stunting, and neurodevelopmental delays in children from low-income countries. Little is known about the histologic changes or epithelial adherent microbiota associated with SIBO. We sought to describe these relationships in a cohort of impoverished Bangladeshi children. Undernourished 12-18-month-old children underwent both glucose hydrogen...

Cost-effectiveness and public health impact of typhoid conjugate vaccine introduction strategies in Bangladesh
CONCLUSIONS: We projected that nationwide TCV introduction with a catch-up campaign would substantially reduce typhoid incidence and very likely be cost saving in Bangladesh.PMID:38531727 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.03.035 (Source: Vaccine)

"The Critical Services Are Out of Reach": Diabetes Management and the Experiences of South Asian Immigrants in Ontario
This study provides support for the fact that even in Canada's universal healthcare system, disparities exist, particularly for ethnic minorities, and that a universal prescription drug coverage component is a crucial step forward to ensure equitable access to health services utilization for all.PMID:38523416 | DOI:10.1177/21501319241240635 (Source: Primary Care)

Severity of Coronary Artery Disease by Friesinger Score Among Women With Acute Coronary Syndrome in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Bangladesh
CONCLUSION: Prior to menopause, single-vessel disease and normal coronary angiography were more common, whereas postmenopausal individuals had triple-vessel disease. The postmenopausal group's CAD was found to be more severe than the premenopausal group's according to the Friesinger score used for severity evaluation.PMID:38524096 | PMC:PMC10959207 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.54617 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Genetic association of novel SNPs in HK-1 (rs201626997) and HK-3 (rs143604141) with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Bangladeshi population
CONCLUSION: This study will help us to easily detect the polymorphisms of HK-1 (rs201626997) and HK-3 (rs143604141) in different populations of the world. Further studies with a greater number of participants and more physiological information are required to better understand the underlying genetic causes of T2DM susceptibility in Bangladesh.PMID:38527673 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2024.148409 (Source: Gene)

Socioeconomic inequality and urban-rural disparity of antenatal care visits in Bangladesh: A trend and decomposition analysis
ConclusionsAccording to the findings of our study, it is imperative for authorities to ensure antenatal care visits are more accessible for rural and underprivileged women. Additionally, should focus on delivering high-quality education, ensuring the completion of education, reducing income disparity as well as launching a program to enhance awareness about health facilities, and the impact of caesarean delivery. Institutional delivery rate and associated factors among women in rural communities: analysis of the 2017-2018 Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey
Conclusion The study revealed that a low proportion of women in rural communities in Bangladesh used institutional delivery. The results of this study should be taken into account by policy-makers and governmental efforts when creating interventions or programmes aimed at increasing institutional delivery in Bangladesh.
