Knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding antibiotic use in Bangladesh: Findings from a cross-sectional study
The objective of this study was to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding the utilization of antibiotics among Bangladeshi residents. MethodsA cross-sectional study, conducted from January 01 to April 25, 2022, included 1,947 Bangladeshi adults with a history of antibiotic use, via online surveys and face-to-face interviews using a pretested semi-structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, and multivariate linear regression models were employed. ResultsMean scores for knowledge, attitudes, and practices were 6.59 ±1.20, 8.34±1.19, and 12.74±2.59, with correct rates of 73.22%, 92.67%...

Isolation and molecular characterization of lumpy skin disease virus from Tamil Nadu, India during the outbreaks from 2020 to 2022
AbstractLumpy skin disease (LSD) caused by LSD virus is a WOAH notifiable, high-impact, transboundary poxviral disease of bovines. The first official report of LSDV in India is from Odisha state during August 2019. Since then, cases have been reported from many states including Tamil Nadu, a Southern state of India. The present study deals with isolation and molecular characterization of LSDV from Tamil Nadu during the period August 2020 to July 2022. LSDV was isolated in embryonated chicken eggs (ECE) and BHK 21 cells and was characterized based onP32, RPO30, andGPCR genes. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that Tamil Na...

Influenza vaccination during the 2021/22 season: A data-linkage test-negative case-control study of effectiveness against influenza requiring emergency care in England and serological analysis of primary care patients
We present England 2021/22 end-of-season adjusted vaccine effectiveness (aVE) against laboratory confirmed influenza related emergency care use in children aged 1-17 and in adults aged 50+, and serological findings in vaccinated vs unvaccinated adults by hemagglutination inhibition assay. Influenza vaccination has been routinely offered to all children aged 2-10 years and adults aged 65 years + in England. In 2021/22, the offer was extended to children to age 15 years, and adults aged 50-64 years. Influenza activity rose during the latter half of the 2021/22 season, while remaining comparatively low due to COVID-19 pandemi...

Arsenic exposure is associated with alterations to multiple red blood cell parameters among adults in rural Bangladesh
Toxicol Appl Pharmacol. 2024 Feb 9;484:116858. doi: 10.1016/j.taap.2024.116858. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic arsenic exposures are associated with multiple hematologic disturbances, including anemia. The goal of this study was to evaluate associations between arsenic exposures and hematological parameters among men and women who are chronically exposed to elevated levels of arsenic from drinking water. Hematologic analyses were performed on blood collected from 755 participants (45% male and 54% female) in the Health Effects of Arsenic Longitudinal Study (HEALS) cohort, Bangladesh. Herein, we used linear regressio...
