An integrative review of home care recommendations for women after caesarean section
AbstractAimTo describe home-based care and practices recommended for mothers after caesarean section (CS), existing in the literature.DesignSystematic review.MethodsThis integrative literature review was conducted by using Google Scholar, PubMed and Hinari databases from its inception to June 2021. The search included research articles, protocols and guidelines that describe home care practice after CS and assessed for their quality. Synthesis of recommendations from the included literature was classified based on the type of study design, and the review was guided by methodology registered in Prospero (ID CRD42021276905)....

Fructose-induced hyperuricaemia - protection factor or oxidative stress promoter?
Nat Prod Res. 2024 Mar 24:1-13. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2024.2327624. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAccumulating evidence suggests that dietary fructose may play a role in the hyperuricaemia development, but the precise mechanism remains unclear. Hyperuricaemia is characterised by excessive production and deposition of urate crystals, and the metabolism of fructose has been implicated in the elevation of serum urate levels. The association between fructose intake and the risk of hyperuricaemia is explained by the metabolism of fructose in the liver, small intestine, and kidney. Many studies have confirmed the correlation bet...

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2034: Robust Deep Neural Network for Learning in Noisy Multi-Label Food Images
This study aims to provide the model with the ability to learn even when the data are not completely clean. For this purpose, we extend the Attentive Feature MixUp method to enable its learning on noisy multi-label food data. The extension was based on the hypothesis that during the MixUp phase, when a pair of images are mixed, the resulting soft labels should be different for each ingredient, being larger for ingredients that are mixed with the background because they are better distinguished than when they are mixed with other ingredients. Furthermore, to address data perturbation, the incorporation of the Laplace approx...

The Role of Obesity in the Development of Preeclampsia
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis comprehensive review provides an in-depth exploration of the complex relationship between obesity and preeclampsia (PE) and emphasizes the clinical implications of this association. It highlights the crucial role of screening tools in assessing individual risk and determining the need for additional antenatal care among women with obesity. The review investigates various markers for identifying the risk of developing PE, while emphasizing the significance of interventions such as exercise, weight management, and a balanced diet in reducing the incidence of preeclampsia and improving outcomes f...

The effects of replacing ghee with rapeseed oil on liver steatosis and enzymes, lipid profile, insulin resistance, and anthropometric measurements in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: A randomized controlled clinical trial
Br J Nutr. 2024 Mar 19:1-30. doi: 10.1017/S0007114524000564. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNon-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which is a prevalent hepatic condition worldwide, is expected to develop into the leading reason for end-stage fatty liver in the forthcoming decades. Incorporating Rapeseed oil into a balanced diet may be beneficial in improving NAFLD. The goal of this trial was to evaluate the impact of substituting ghee with rapeseed oil on primary outcomes such as fatty liver and liver enzymes, as well as on secondary outcomes including glycemic variables, lipid profile, and anthropometric measurements in indivi...

The Level of Sex Hormones and Corticosterone in Female Rats during Modeling of Visceral Obesity, Subsequent Physical Activity, and Normalization of the Diet
The effects of diet-induced visceral obesity and non-drug options of its correction on the level of sex hormones and corticosterone were evaluated in 84 female Wistar rats. During stage I, the rats received either a standard diet (STD) or a high-calorie diet (HCD) for 8 weeks. During stage II, the animals were divided into subgroups depending on obesity correction: without correction (STD control and HCD), transition from HCD to STD (HCD/STD) and/or physical activity (treadmill exercise) for the next 8 weeks (HCD/STD+exercise, STD+exercise, and HCD+exercise). Diet-induced visceral obesity resulted in hyperandrogenization a...

UPDATE trial: investigating the effects of ultra-processed versus minimally processed diets following UK dietary guidance on health outcomes: a protocol for an 8-week community-based cross-over randomised controlled trial in people with overweight or obesity, followed by a 6-month behavioural intervention
Introduction Obesity increases the risk of morbidity and mortality. A major driver has been the increased availability of ultra-processed food (UPF), now the main UK dietary energy source. The UK Eatwell Guide (EWG) provides public guidance for a healthy balanced diet but offers no UPF guidance. Whether a healthy diet can largely consist of UPFs is unclear. No study has assessed whether the health impact of adhering to dietary guidelines depends on food processing. Furthermore, our study will assess the impact of a 6-month behavioural support programme aimed at reducing UPF intake in people with overweight/obesity and high...

Protective effects of N-acetylcysteine and S-adenosyl-Lmethionine against nephrotoxicity and immunotoxicity induced by ochratoxin A in rats
CONCLUSION: NAC and SAMe have a protective role against nephrotoxicity and immunotoxicity induced by continuous administration of OTA. NAC was more effective in reducing OTA nephrotoxicity, whereas SAMe was more potent than NAC in reducing OTA immunotoxicity.PMID:38455596 | PMC:PMC10915916 (Source: Cancer Control)
