Source: J Urology Area: News The original 4 year REDUCE (REduction by DUtasteride of prostate Cancer Events) trial evaluated dutasteride (0.5mg daily) for prostate cancer risk reduction in men at increased risk for prostate cancer (older age, increased PSA levels) found that dutasteride reduced the relative risk of biopsy detectable prostate cancer by 22.8% (95% CI 15.2-29.8) compared with placebo.   In the current REDUCE Follow-Up Study, 2,751 of the original participants were followed up for an additional two years during which time no drugs were provided and all biopsies were performed for cause.
