Accelerated atherosclerosis in Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody-Associated Vasculitis: case report
We describe the case of a 60-year-old patient with a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology, who presented two acute coronary syndromes with only a six-month difference. Rapid progression of coronary involvement was evidenced, along with increased markers of inflammatory response, usual interstitial pneumonia on tomography, and positive anti-myeloperoxidase antibodies (anti-MPO), leading to the diagnosis of microscopic polyangiitis (MPA). In these cases, timely diagnostic suspicion is crucial, as early treatment significantly impacts the course and prognosis of the diseas...

Immune checkpoints in autoimmune vasculitis
Best Pract Res Clin Rheumatol. 2024 Apr 9:101943. doi: 10.1016/j.berh.2024.101943. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGiant cell arteritis (GCA) is a prototypic autoimmune disease with a highly selective tissue tropism for medium and large arteries. Extravascular GCA manifests with intense systemic inflammation and polymyalgia rheumatica; vascular GCA results in vessel wall damage and stenosis, causing tissue ischemia. Typical granulomatous infiltrates in affected arteries are composed of CD4+ T cells and hyperactivated macrophages, signifying the involvement of the innate and adaptive immune system. Lesional CD4+ T cells under...

First-In-Human Study on Pharmacokinetics, Safety, and Tolerability of Single and Multiple Escalating Doses of PA9159 Nasal Spray, a Highly Potent Glucocorticoid in Healthy Chinese Volunteers
CONCLUSIONS: The PA9159 nasal spray was generally safe and well tolerated, and the effects of PA9159 on serum cortisol levels were limited. The plasma concentration and systemic exposure to PA9159 were very low. These findings support the necessity for further clinical studies on PA9159 nasal spray in patients suffering from allergic rhinitis.PMID:38599506 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejps.2024.106764 (Source: European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences)

Interstitial Pneumonia Associated with Nodal T-follicular Helper Cell Lymphoma: A Case Report
Intern Med. 2024 Apr 9. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.3601-24. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNodal T-follicular helper cell lymphoma (nTFHL), a hematologic neoplasm originating from T-follicular helper (TFH) cells, occasionally presents with pulmonary radiographic abnormalities, without neoplastic cellular infiltration. However, the precise mechanisms underlying non-neoplastic pulmonary opacities in patients with nTFHL remain unclear. Previous reports have shown that TFH cell abnormalities are associated with collagen disease and interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features (IPAF). We herein report a patient with nTFHL ...

Homotherapy for heteropathy: Interleukin-41 and its biological functions
Immunology. 2024 Apr 9. doi: 10.1111/imm.13791. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInterleukin-41 (IL-41) is a newly discovered cytokine, named Cometin, Subfatin, meteorin-like transcription (Metrnl), and so forth. It is widely expressed in animals and can exert its biological roles through autocrine and paracrine forms. It has functions such as anti-inflammatory, improving body metabolism, regulating immunity, regulating fat metabolism and participates in the process of autoimmune disease or inflammatory injury. It plays an important role in psoriasis, diabetes, Crohn's disease (CD), osteoarthritis, Kawasaki disease (KD), Grav...

Anti-aquaporin-4 immunoglobulin G/anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein immunoglobulin G double-positive paraneoplastic neurological syndrome in a patient with triple-negative breast cancer
We report a rare case of paraneoplastic neurological syndrome with dual seropositivity of anti-aquaporin-4 and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibodies in a 40 year-old woman with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer. She received multiple lines of anti-neoplastic treatment, including immunotherapy with pembrolizumab, as well as cytotoxic chemotherapy. Paraneoplastic meningoencephalomyelitis developed 2 years after diagnosis of breast cancer and 1 year after discontinuation of immunotherapy with pembrolizumab. She first developed longitudinally extending transverse myelitis followed by left optic neuritis and men...

CD177 drives the transendothelial migration of Treg cells enriched in human colorectal cancer
CONCLUSIONS: These results demonstrated that Treg cells with higher CD177 levels exhibited an enhanced activation status and transendothelial migration capacity. Our findings suggest that CD177 may serve as an immunotherapeutic target and that overexpression of CD177 may improve the efficacy of chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy.PMID:38596253 | PMC:PMC11003710 | DOI:10.1002/cti2.1506 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)
