Unravelling CD4 < sup > + < /sup > T cell diversity and tissue adaptation of Tregs in abdominal aortic aneurysms through single-cell sequencing
Immunology. 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1111/imm.13796. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTImmune cell infiltration is a significant pathological process in abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). T cells, particularly CD4+ T cells, are essential immune cells responsible for substantial infiltration of the aorta. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) in AAA have been identified as tissue-specific; however, the time, location, and mechanism of acquiring the tissue-specific phenotype are still unknown. Using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) on CD4+ T cells from the AAA aorta and spleen, we discovered heterogeneity among CD4+ T cells and identified...

Visualizing the crucial roles of plasma membrane and peroxynitrite during abdominal aortic aneurysm using two-photon fluorescence imaging
Talanta. 2024 Apr 16;274:126120. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2024.126120. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPeroxynitrite (ONOO-) and cell plasma membrane (CPM) are two key factors in cell pyroptosis during the progression of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). However, their combined temporal and spatial roles in initiating AAA pathogenesis remain unclear. Herein, we developed a two-photon fluorescence probe, BH-Vis, enabling real-time dynamic detection of CPM and ONOO- changes, and revealing their interplay in AAA. BH-Vis precisely targets CPM with reduced red fluorescence intensity correlating with diminished CPM tension. Concurren...

Is it time to expand screening criteria for abdominal aortic aneurysms?
Summers and colleagues have completed an elegant analysis using data from people in the United States who participated in ultrasound-based abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening outreach.1 Various vascular societal guidelines support ultrasound-based AAA screening in the general population. The Society for Vascular Surgery recommends screening all men and women 65 to 75  years old with a history of tobacco use.2 The European Society for Vascular Surgery recommends screening all men at age 65 but not women. Transcatheter electrosurgical septotomy technique for chronic postdissection aortic aneurysms
Aortic dissection often results in chronic aneurysmal degeneration due to progressive false lumen expansion. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair and other techniques of vessel incorporation such as fenestrated-branched or parallel grafts have been increasingly used to treat chronic postdissection aneurysms. True lumen compression or a vessel origin from the false lumen can present considerable technical challenges. In these cases, the limited true lumen space can result in inadequate stent graft expansion or restrict the ability to reposition the device or manipulate catheters. The proprotein convertase FURIN is a novel aneurysm predisposition gene impairing TGF- β signaling
CONCLUSION: FURIN is a novel, frequent genetic predisposition for abdominal-, thoracic-, and multiple aortic or middle sized artery aneurysms in older patients, by affecting intracellular TGF-β signaling, depending on individual genetic backgrounds.PMID:38636100 | DOI:10.1093/cvr/cvae078 (Source: Cell Research)

Physician-modified versus chimney endografting for pararenal aortic aneurysms: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Ch-EVAR and physician-modified technology are safe with low 30-day mortality in elective settings for pararenal aortic aneurysms repair. No significant differences were seen between the two surgical methods regarding the early major adverse events rate. However, higher occlusion rate for the chimneys can be expected over time.PMID:38635285 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.24.12995-3 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery)

Impact of iliac access in elective and non-elective endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm
In conclusion, an accurate anatomical evaluation of iliac arteries during preoperative planning, materials availability, and skilled preparation to face iliac-related issues are crucial to address these challenges.PMID:38635284 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.24.12987-4 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery)

Protagoras 3.0: feasibility of current fenestrated endografts and chimney technique for complex abdominal aortic aneurysms
CONCLUSIONS: Most of the patients treated by ChEVAR would have not been treated by first generation fenestrated stent graft. The current available fenestrated endografts, with lower profile and suitable also for angulated necks, increase the anatomical feasibility.PMID:38635286 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.24.13032-7 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery)

Early multicentric outcomes of the on-label and CE-marked combination of the Endurant with the Radiant chimney graft for the chimney endovascular aortic repair (EnChEVAR): The LaMuR Registry
CONCLUSIONS: First reported cohort of patients treated with EnChEVAR demonstrated reproducible clinical and procedural outcomes within the 3 vascular centers with total exclusion of the aneurysms, patent renal arteries, and no evidence of gutter-related type IA endoleak. Further evidence with larger sample size of treated patients and longer follow-up are needed.PMID:38635287 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.24.13056-X (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery)

Outcomes of Off the Shelf Outer Branched Versus Inner Branched Endografts in the Treatment of Thoraco-abdominal Aortic Aneurysm in the B.R.I.O. (BRanched Inner - Outer) Study Group
CONCLUSION: Both off the shelf devices provided excellent early and 1 year results. The E-nside may require shorter thoracic aorta coverage and bridging length for the renal arteries, and less frequent implantation of concomitant proximal thoracic or distal abdominal bifurcated endograft. However, these aspects did not determine significant differences in clinical outcomes.PMID:38636923 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2024.04.005 (Source: PubMed: Eur J Vasc Endovasc ...)

Sudden death syndrome in domestic ruminants: a review
AbstractThis review provides a comprehensive exploration of factors contributing to sudden death (SD) in ruminants, focusing on cattle, sheep, and goats. The definition of unexpected death varies based on the farming system. In intensive systems, constant surveillance enables rapid detection of diseases, while in extensive systems, irregular checks may result in finding animals dead after a prolonged illness. SD syndrome definitions vary; some involve clear clinical signs, while others consider acute death in apparently healthy animals. Various infectious causes of SD are discussed, including enterotoxemia, hemorrhagic bow...
