Genes, Vol. 13, Pages 2228: Characterising Mitochondrial Capture in an Iberian Shrew
oana Paupério Mitochondrial introgression raises questions of biogeography and of the extent of reproductive isolation and natural selection. Previous phylogenetic work on the Sorex araneus complex revealed apparent mitonuclear discordance in Iberian shrews, indicating past hybridisation of Sorex granarius and the Carlit chromosomal race of S. araneus, enabling introgression of the S. araneus mitochondrial genome into S. granarius. To further study this, we genetically typed 61 Sorex araneus/coronatus/granarius from localities in Portugal, Spain, France, and Andorra at mitochondrial, autosomal, and sex-linked loci and...

Applicability and reproducibility of the validated intraoperative bleeding severity scale (VIBe scale) in liver surgery: A multicenter study
Bleeding is an intraoperative and postoperative complication of liver surgery of concern, and yet evidence to support utility and reproducibility of bleeding scales for liver surgery is limited. We determined the reproducibility of the clinician-reported validated intraoperative bleeding severity scale and its clinical value of implementation in liver surgery. (Source: Surgery)

Seroprevalence study prior and post vaccination in cancer patients in principality of Andorra (COVONCO study)
ConclusionThe seroprevalence of antibodies against SARS-COV-2 in oncologic patients in Andorra was higher among females and patients who received hormonal therapy and surgery while patients with hematologic malignancies and biologic therapies showed lower seropositivity without finding differences in the type of tumour or anticancer treatment. Hepatitis E virus genotype 3 microbiological surveillance by the Spanish Reference Laboratory: geographic distribution and phylogenetic analysis of subtypes from 2009 to 2019
ConclusionThe importance of the surveillance of HEV-3 subtype and subcluster circulation is yet to be assessed. This surveillance together with the comprehensive epidemiological characterisation of clinical cases, could support the identification of sources of transmission and the establishment of control measures nationally and internationally.PMID:35686567 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2022.27.23.2100542 (Source: Euro Surveill)

Early procalcitonin to predict mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients: a multicentric cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: PCT values are not independent predictors of ICU mortality in COVID-19 patients. Acute immunosuppression significantly reduced PCT values, although not influencing its predictive value.PMID:35072432 | DOI:10.23736/S0375-9393.22.15942-0 (Source: Minerva Anestesiologica)
