Zoonotic Majocchi's Granuloma of the Vulva
Skinmed. 2024 Mar 18;22(1):67-68. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTA healthy 32-year-old woman presented to clinic with tender pruritic lesions of 2-month duration at the vulva and lesions for weeks on the shins. She was treated with topical corticosteroids and intravenous vancomycin without significant improvement. On examination, dozens of follicular hemorrhagic papulopustules were detected at the suprapubic area and vulva (Figure 1). Similar but less prominent lesions were observed on the shins as well. Biopsies of the vulva and shin revealed a follicular inflammatory infiltrate of neutrophils, histiocytes, and lymphocytes as w...

Association between non-scarring alopecia and hypothyroidism: a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionThis MR study supports a bidirectional causal link between AA and hypothyroidism. Nevertheless, additional research is needed to gain a more thorough comprehension of the causal relationship between non-scarring alopecia and hypothyroidism. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Analysis of the finasteride treatment and its withdrawal in the rat hypothalamus and hippocampus at whole-transcriptome level
ConclusionSome of the genes reported to be differentially expressed (i.e.,TTR,DIO2,CLDN1,CLDN2,SLC4A5, KCNE2, CROT, HCRT, MARCKSL1, VGF, IRF2BPL) and GSEA, suggest a potential link with specific side effects previously observed in patients and in the animal model, such as depression, anxiety, disturbance in memory and attention, and sleep disturbance. These data may provide an important background for future experiments aimed at confirming the pathological role of these genes. (Source: Journal of Endocrinological Investigation)

Response to Desai et  al, “Response to ‘Low-dose oral minoxidil for androgenetic alopecia is not associated with clinically significant blood-pressure changes: a retrospective study’”
To the Editor: We thank Desai et  al1 for their thoughtful engagement with our article,2 in which we reported that treatment with low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) was not associated with clinically significant systolic or diastolic blood pressure (BP) changes in either gender or in any age group. Safety of Biological Therapies for Severe Asthma: An Analysis of Suspected Adverse Reactions Reported in the WHO Pharmacovigilance Database
CONCLUSIONS: The most frequently reported suspected ADRs of asthma biologics in VigiBase confirmed the presence of well-known adverse effects such as general disorders, injection-site reactions, nasopharyngitis, headache and hypersensitivity, while some others (e.g. asthma reactivation or therapeutic failure) could be ascribed to the indication of use. Moreover, the analysis of signals of disproportionate reporting suggests the presence of malignancies, effects on the cardiovascular system, alopecia and autoimmune conditions, requiring further assessment and investigation.PMID:38489062 | DOI:10.1007/s40259-024-00653-6 (Source: Herpes)
