Toxic effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of naproxen exposure on Daphnia magna including antioxidant system, development, and reproduction
Aquat Toxicol. 2023 Dec 7;266:106794. doi: 10.1016/j.aquatox.2023.106794. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNaproxen (NPX) is one of common non-prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which is widely detected in aquatic environments worldwide due to its high usage and low degradation. NPX exerts anti-inflammatory and analgesic pharmacological effects through the inhibition of prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase (PTGS), also known as cyclooxygenase (COX). Given its evolutionarily relatively conserved biological functions, the potential toxic effects of NPX on non-target aquatic organisms deserve more attenti...

Evaluation of outpatient prescription patterns of COVID-19 drugs in Iran: comparison of real practice with local therapeutic recommendations
ConclusionIn this study, we showed frequent use of drugs with unproven efficacy in outpatient cases of Covid-19 mostly attributed to corticosteroids and antibiotics use. Our research highlights the discrepancy between recommendations for care and clinical practice and the need for strategy to bridge gaps in evidence-based informed decision-making. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Adverse Event Signals Associated with Potential Inhibitors of Glutathione Peroxidase 1: A Sequence Symmetry Analysis
ConclusionADE signals were generated for several potential GPx1 inhibitors; however, further validation of signals is required in large well-controlled observational studies. (Source: Drug Safety)

Ibuprofen modulates tetrodotoxin-resistant persistent Na < sup > + < /sup > currents at acidic pH in rat trigeminal ganglion neurons
Eur J Pharmacol. 2023 Nov 20:176218. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.176218. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNon-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used to relieve various symptoms such as headache, arthralgia, and dental pain. While the primary mechanism of NSAID-based pain relief is the inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2, several NSAIDs also modulate other molecular targets related to nociceptive transmission such as voltage-gated Na+ channels. In the present study, we examined the effects of NSAIDs on persistent Na+ current (INaP) mediated by tetrodotoxin-resistant (TTX-R) Na+ channels in small-to medium-sized t...

Under what conditions is the intra-articular steroid injection superior to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for treating sacroiliac joint pain?
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with sacroiliac joint pain, sacroiliac joint injection is superior to NSAIDs in pain relief in patients with pain for more than 30 days, those with MRI-diagnosed sacroiliitis, and those who have undergone lumbar surgery.PMID:37975377 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202311_34331 (Source: Pharmacological Reviews)
