New dimeric phloroglucinol derivatives from Agrimonia pilosa and their hepatoprotective activities
Bioorg Chem. 2021 Sep 8;116:105341. doi: 10.1016/j.bioorg.2021.105341. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFive new dimeric phloroglucinol derivatives, agrimones A - E (1-5), were isolated from the whole plant of Agrimonia pilosa. Their structures including absolute configurations were determined by a series of spectroscopic data (UV, IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR), complemented with the comparison of the experimental and calculated ECD spectra, and gauge-independent atomic orbital (GIAO) NMR calculations. Notably, compounds 1 and 2 represent a highly oxidized 6/6/6 tricyclic ring skeleton based on the cis-fused paraquinone and c...

Effects of a Chlorogenic Acid-Containing Herbal Medicine (LAS < sup > NB < /sup > ) on Colon Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: We found that LASNB suppressed the progression of colon cancer via the RTK-MEK-ERK and NF-κB pathways, with no severe toxicity observed. Therefore, LASNB has the potential to be used as a supplementary herbal medicine for the treatment of colon cancer.PMID:34462643 | PMC:PMC8403046 | DOI:10.1155/2021/9923467 (Source: Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine)

Potent antiviral activity of Agrimonia pilosa, Galla rhois, and their components against SARS-CoV-2
Bioorg Med Chem. 2021 Jul 23;45:116329. doi: 10.1016/j.bmc.2021.116329. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAgrimonia pilosa (AP), Galla rhois (RG), and their mixture (APRG64) strongly inhibited SARS-CoV-2 by interfering with multiple steps of the viral life cycle including viral entry and replication. Furthermore, among 12 components identified in APRG64, three displayed strong antiviral activity, ursolic acid (1), quercetin (7), and 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-β-d-glucose (12). Molecular docking analysis showed these components to bind potently to the spike receptor-binding-domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 and its variant B.1.1.7...

Molecules, Vol. 26, Pages 83: Designing New Antibacterial Wound Dressings: Development of a Dual Layer Cotton Material Coated with Poly(Vinyl Alcohol)_Chitosan Nanofibers Incorporating Agrimonia eupatoria L. Extract
veia Wounds display particular vulnerability to microbial invasion and infections by pathogenic bacteria. Therefore, to reduce the risk of wound infections, researchers have expended considerable energy on developing advanced therapeutic dressings, such as electrospun membranes containing antimicrobial agents. Among the most used antimicrobial agents, medicinal plant extracts demonstrate considerable potential for clinical use, due primarily to their efficacy allied to relatively low incidence of adverse side-effects. In this context, the present work aimed to develop a unique dual-layer composite material with enhance...

Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb Root Extract: Anti-Inflammatory Activities of the Medicinal Herb in LPS-Induced Inflammation.
This study aims to examine the anti-inflammatory effects of Agrimonia pilosaLedeb root extracts (APL-ME) in Porphyromonas gingivalisLPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells and find anti-inflammatory effect compounds of APL-ME. The anti-inflammatory effects of APL-ME were evaluated anti-oxidant activity, cell viability, nitrite concentration, pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin-1[Formula: see text], interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-[Formula: see text], and anti-inflammatory cytokine (interleukin-10 (IL-10)). Also, Inflammation related genes and proteins, cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), expr...

Agrimophol suppresses RANKL-mediated osteoclastogenesis through Blimp1-Bcl6 axis and prevents inflammatory bone loss in mice.
In this study, we found that AGR inhibited RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis, bone-resorption, F-actin ring formation, and the mRNA expression of osteoclast-associated genes such as CTSK, TRAP, MMP-9, and ATP6v0d2 in vitro. In addition, AGR suppressed RANKL-induced expression of c-Fos and NFATc1. However, AGR treatment did not affect NF-κB activation and MAPKs phosphorylation in RANKL-stimulated BMMs, which implicated that AGR might not influence the initial expression of NFATc1 mediated by NF-κB and MAPKs signaling. Our results further indicated that AGR did not alter phosphorylation levels of GSK3β and the expression o...
