Oncotarget: GATA3 and APOBEC3B are prognostic markers in adrenocortical carcinoma
(Impact Journals LLC) The cover for issue 36 of Oncotarget features Figure 7, 'Knockdown of APOBEC3B is associated with a lower tumor growth in an adrenocortical carcinoma xenograft mouse model,' by Gara, et al. which reported that the role of APOBEC3B in adrenocortical carcinoma and the mechanisms through which its expression is regulated in cancer are not fully understood. TGen and international team find new avenues of precision medicine for treating cancer
(The Translational Genomics Research Institute) An international team of scientists, including those at the Translational Genomic Research Institute, have discovered new avenues of potential treatments for a rare and deadly cancer known as adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC). In a study published today in the scientific journal Cancer Cell, researchers conducted an extensive genomic profile of ACC, a cancer of the adrenal glands, located above the kidneys. Current treatment options for ACC have not changed in decades and are not curative. (Source: EurekAlert! - Cancer)

TERT promoter mutations in adrenal tumours
The telomerase reverse transcriptase gene (TERT) is essential for telomere stabilization and cell immortalization. A role for TERT promoter mutations C228T and C250T has been demonstrated in aggressive human cancer. The underlying mechanisms of telomerase activation is not known in adrenal tumors. Liu and colleagues assessed C228T and C250T TERT mutations, finding that TERT promoter mutation C228T is a recurrent event associated with adrenocortical carcinoma, but rarely occurs in paraganglioma or pheochromocytoma. The involvement of the TERT gene in adrenocortical carcinoma is a new finding. Read the full article at Liu e...
