Most Effective Antimicrobials for Treatment of Infections in Cystic Fibrosis Lung Transplant Recipients

Post lung transplant infections for patients with cystic fibrosis can lead to sepsis and death in some cases due to antibiotic resistant bacteria that are colonizing the native lung pre transplant. Co-trimoxazole is the recommended treatment for infections with Stenotrophomas maltophilia but resistance to this agent or if patients are allergic other antimicrobials need identified. Conventional antimicrobial susceptibility testing methods are inadequate for determining the most effective antibiotic combinations against antibiotic resistant Gram negative bacteria.
