Abstract Since the amount of contrast media during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is closely related to the exacerbation of renal function, it should be important to reduce the dose of contrast media during PCI. The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the association of less-contrast media with clinical factors in elective PCI. A total of 709 patients were divided into the less-contrast media group (n = 142) and the conventional-contrast media group (n = 567) according to the quintile of total contrast volume. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses w...

CONCLUSION: Hospitalization or death was not influenced by the type of RO, Al accumulation, or TMV classification. An elevated prevalence of osteoporosis and Al accumulation was detected. PMID: 31967202 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionsScurvy is caused by vitamin C deficiency. Cutaneous bleeding, mucosal bleeding, and anemia represent typical manifestations of the disease. These symptoms are directly connected to ascorbic acid involvement in collagen biosynthesis. Some radiographic findings can be useful for the diagnosis. Treatment aims to normalize serum levels of vitamin C in order to counteract the deprivation symptoms. The present case report demonstrates that scurvy may sporadically occur in pediatric patients, even in individuals with no predisposing medical conditions and/or potential risk factors.

Omega ‐3 (n‐3) fatty acids have beneficial cardiovascular effects, perhaps also in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. We measured fatty acids (HPLC‐MS lipidomics) in all components of the circulating blood. Our data demonstrate significant changes in fatty acid signatures between healthy persons and CKD patients. However, dialysis treatment per se does not appear to be responsible for a lower omega‐3 index in CKD patients. AbstractOmega ‐3 (n‐3) fatty acids have beneficial cardiovascular effects, perhaps also in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. A low omega‐3 index is an independent cardiovascular ri...

Due to the potential risk of volume overload, physicians are hesitant to aggressively fluid-resuscitate septic patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis (HD). Our study indicates that aggressive fluid resuscitation appears to be safe in ESRD patients.

AbstractThe immunoglobulin (Ig) D type is a rare variant of multiple myeloma (MM), that accounts for 1 –2% of all cases. Compared to the more common types of MM, IgD MM is known to have more severe symptoms at presentation, and a poorer prognosis. A woman was admitted to our hospital for severe acute kidney disease and disorder (AKD) and back pain, and was started on hemodialysis. The renal biopsy revealed light chain cast nephropathy. She was diagnosed with IgD-λ MM based on Bence-Jones protein expression and high IgD serum levels, and started bortezomib therapy with plasma exchange (PE). After three sessions...
