Prenatal diagnosis of a liver mass by Tru-Cut ® biopsy

A 32 year old, gravida 2 para 1 at 33 week ’s gestation, was referred for a third opinion regarding a large fetal liver mass. The couple sought approval for a termination of pregnancy, following a differential diagnosis of hepatoblastoma. A specialised ultrasound (US) and fetal magnetic resonance imaging (f-MRI) were repeated in our unit a nd the results were consistent with a diagnosis of haemangioma. A Tru-Cut® (Meritmedical, Utah, USA) liver biopsy was performed confirming a benign haemangioma and the couple opted to continue with the pregnancy.
