In this article, DeWitt-Foy et al. report a significant association between the number of primary stone-related events (SREs) and the subsequent development of opioid-related disorders (ORD), estimating a 6.2% absolute risk of ORD. Risk factors including younger age, white race, lower income, and a history of chronic pain increased the relative risk of ORD. Interestingly, a more rural location (Iowa), relative to the other states in the analysis, was also a risk factor for ORD.
