CONCLUSIONS: A newly derived Pediatric Sepsis Biomarker Risk Model biomarker-based model reliably estimates risk of sepsis-associated myocardial dysfunction in pediatric septic shock, but independent prospective validation is needed.

RCT (n=124) found vitamin C monotherapy (1000mg bolus followed by continuous infusion 250 mg/hr for 96 hours) failed to significantly reduce mortality (all-cause 28-day mortality: 26.7% vitamin C vs. 40.6% placebo; p=0.10), not supporting routine clinical use for this purpose.
