Prenatal ultrasound findings regarding obstruction to blood flow and an umbilical artery varix caused by umbilical cord torsion

A 28-year-old female, G2P1, underwent regular prenatal examinations beginning from 12+5 weeks of gestation in the outpatient department of our hospital. Systemic ultrasonography of the fetus at 24 weeks of gestation indicated polyhydramnios (amniotic fluid index: 27.8 cm) and no apparent abnormalities in fetal structure. The patient was admitted to our hospital with complaints of dull pain in the lower abdomen at 30+2 weeks of gestation, and an emergency ultrasound indicated opening of the internal os and shortening of the uterine cervical canal.
