Early and Late Career Surgeon Deficiencies in Complex Cases

Reoperative cardiac surgery is technically more demanding and associated with increased risk compared to primary cardiac operations. Current data suggest evidence of a learning curve for complex reoperations during the first four years in practice. Outcomes improve and ultimately stabilize throughout the mid-career, then decline during the most senior years.
