CONCLUSION: Unmet needs identified by SSs and CGs were used to extend NTCM specific to the stroke population and to develop the Recommendations and Exemplars for Stroke Specific Comprehensive Transitional Care Delivery (see Supplementary Digital Content, available at http://links.lww.com/JNN/A385). Researchers and practitioners can use the findings to develop and deliver more comprehensive TC to SSs and CGs.

CONCLUSION: According to the results, the proportion of patients with high medication adherence was low. Patients' concerns about the possible side effects of their prescribed medications and beliefs about the overuse of medications negatively affected their medication adherence. It is recommended that nurses evaluate patients' medication adherence and beliefs about medications during hospitalization, discharge, or home visits. Structured nurse-led intervention programs are needed to enhance patients' medication adherence and beliefs about their medications.

This study used data from 2 cross-sectional studies conducted in the neurology departments of 3 hospitals in Guangzhou, China. In total, 110 hypertensive stroke patients were recruited in stage I (2008-2009), and 119 hypertensive stroke patients were recruited in stage II (2018-2019). Patients' stroke knowledge was measured by the Stroke Knowledge Questionnaire. Patients' prestroke health behavior was measured by the Health Behavior Scale for Stroke Patients. RESULTS: The total score of prestroke health behaviors significantly increased over the decade (P

In conclusion, neurovascular imaging in Loeys Dietz syndrome type III patients revealed abnormalities such as aneurysm, tortuosity, coiling and kinking in the vast majority of patients, but clinical events were rare. Neurovascular screening and follow up is advised in all Loeys Dietz syndrome type III patients.PMID:35031499 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejmg.2022.104424

AbstractNuclear medicine neuroimaging is able to show functional and molecular biologic abnormalities in various neuropsychiatric diseases. Therefore, it has played important roles in the clinical diagnosis and in research on the normal and pathological states of the brain. More than 400 outstanding studies have been conducted by Korean researchers over the past 60  years. In the 1990s, when multiheaded single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scanners were first introduced in South Korea, stroke research using brain perfusion SPECT was conducted. With the spread of positron emission tomography (PET) scanner...

ConclusionThis study showed that large artery stiffness and not the presence of peripheral arterial disease or carotid artery stenosis have the prognostic role of middle cerebral arteries ’ calcifications and cardiovascular mortality in hemodialyzed patients. The presence of middle cerebral arteries’ calcifications diagnosed by a non-invasive method should be considered a marker of middle-sized conduit arteries atherosclerosis, subclinical brain damage, and future fatal cardiovas cular events.

AbstractAims/hypothesisWe aimed to compare the performance of risk prediction scores for CVD (i.e., coronary heart disease and stroke), and a broader definition of CVD including atrial fibrillation and heart failure (CVD+), in individuals with type 2 diabetes.MethodsScores were identified through a literature review and were included irrespective of the type of predicted cardiovascular outcome or the inclusion of individuals with type 2 diabetes. Performance was assessed in a contemporary, representative sample of 168,871 UK-based individuals with type 2 diabetes (age  ≥18 years without pre-existing CVD+). M...

AbstractIschemic stroke, with its high morbidity and mortality, is the most common cerebrovascular accident and results in severe neurological deficits. Despite advances in medical and surgical intervention, post-stroke therapies remain scarce, which seriously affects the quality of life of patients. Over the past decades, stem cell transplantation has been recognized as very promising therapy for neurological diseases. Neural stem cell (NSC) transplantation is the optimal choice for ischemic stroke as NSCs inherently reside in the brain and can potentially differentiate into a variety of cell types within the central nerv...

ConclusionsOur findings support the interpretation of a fenestration of the cervical segment of the internal carotid artery as a developmental vascular variant, but also suggest a substantial risk for dissection and ischemic stroke. Even in case of an accidental finding, clinicians should be aware of this. At least in this case, antiplatelet therapy seemed beneficial.
