ConclusionThis pilot study establishes short-term efficacy and safety of mirabegron in valve bladder with overactivity. Further larger long-term studies are warranted.

According to different treatment methods, they were equally divided into two groups. The experimental group (n=60) was treated with radical cystectomy combined with GC chemotherapy. The control group (n=...

Discussion A cutaneous vesicostomy is an incontinent diversion of the bladder to the external abdominal wall usually below the umbilicus that maintains a low-pressure urinary system. The urine drains into a collecting bag or hygiene product such as a diaper. It is usually used as a temporary diversion until bladder function resolves or another treatment can be carried out. However, it can also be used as a permanent diversion in some cases. A vesico-cutaneous fistula is similar but performed slightly differently. It is often intended to be a longer-term diversion procedure and is a continent diversion of the bladder. Some ...

A 38-year-old man was referred to the department of nephrology for the evaluation of bilateral hydronephrosis. The patient had a history of polyuria since childhood for which he had been using a desmopressin nasal spray for>20 years without a clear diagnosis. On physical examination, he had no costovertebral angle tenderness or peripheral edema. The family history revealed that his grandmother, father, aunt, uncle, and sister had similar manifestations. His laboratory findings included a serum sodium level of 140 mmol/l, a urine osmolality of 454 mOsm/kg, a serum creatinine level of 1.52 mg/dl, and basal pituitary hormo...

Authors: Chávez-Iñiguez JS, Navarro-Gallardo GJ, Medina-González R, Alcantar-Vallin L, García-García G Abstract Acute kidney injury secondary to obstructive nephropathy is a frequent event that accounts for 5 to 10% of all acute kidney injury cases and has a great impact on the morbidity and mortality in those affected. The obstruction in the urinary tract has a profound impact on kidney function due to damage produced by ischemic and inflammatory factors that have been associated with intense fibrosis. This pathology is characterized by its effects on the management of fluids, el...

We report outcomes of our initial experience with LP in 38 children from 2 months of age. Materials and Methods From June 2015 to December 2017 38 children aged 2-60 months (mean age 1.7 years) underwent LP for correction of PUJ obstruction. The mean pre operative anteroposterior diameter of the renal pelvis (APD) was 43,5mm and all patients had hydronephrosis (APD 21.4-76 mm) and obstructed curve on diuretic renogram. Anderson-Hynes pyeloplasty was the performed technique. Results are reported. Results Mean operative time was 107 minutes (70-180) with no conversion to open procedure. Pain control was needed mainly in the ...

Correct answer: E. All patients need a full medical history, an examination including a digital rectal examination, simple urinalysis and a means to quantify the symptoms, such as a symptom score or frequency –volume chart. Renal function tests are only needed in initial management if there are ‘red flags’ such as a clinical suspicion of renal impairment, for example on patients with nocturnal enuresis, a palpable bladder, hydronephrosis, recurrent urinary tract infections or renal tract calculi.

The transcription factor hepatocyte nuclear factor–1β (HNF-1β) is essential for normal kidney development and function. Inactivation of HNF-1β in mouse kidney tubules leads to early-onset cyst formation and postnatal lethality. Here, we used Pkhd1/Cre mice to delete HNF-1β specifically in renal collecting ducts (CDs). CD-specific HNF-1β mutant mice survived long term and developed slowly progressive cystic kidney disease, renal fibrosis, and hydronephrosis. Compared with wild-type littermates, HNF-1β mutant mice exhibited polyuria and polydipsia. Before the development of significant ren...

We report a case of an 8-year-old male patient with CDI with severe bilateral non-obstructive hydronephrosis and megaureter. Dramatic clinical and radiological responses to dDAVP treatment were achieved and therapy reduced urine volume and led to marked radiological improvement in hydronephrosis.
