Norovirus Infections in Kidney Transplant Recipients

Conclusions. Chronic NoV infection is associated with reduced allograft function. Administration of IVIg to patients with chronic NoV infection seems beneficial in achieving freedom from clinical symptoms, despite limited effects on shedding of virus.

AbstractIn tracheal tissue engineering, the construction of tracheal scaffolds with adequate biodegradable mechanical capacity and biological functions that mimic the structure of a natural trachea is challenging. To explore the feasibility of preparing biomimetic degradable scaffolds with C-type cartilage rings and an inner tracheal wall of polycaprolactone and silk fibroin. A mold was made according to the diameter of a rabbit trachea, and a silk fibroin tube and polycaprolactone ring attached to the tube were obtained by solution casting. The ring was fixed to the tube at a specific spacing using electrostatic spinning ...

Your heart rate is a measurement of the number of times per minute that your heart contracts or beats. Monitoring your heart rate is useful for tracking fitness and managing the risk factors of heart and circulatory diseases like diabetes. So, how do you measure your heart rate and what is a healthy heart rate?

The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between serum 25 ‐hydroxyvitamin-D(25-(OH)2D3) level and sweat function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).MethodsA cross-sectional study of 1021 patients with T2DM who underwent 25-(OH)2D3 level detections and sweat function tests was carried out. These individuals were divided into deficient groups (n = 154 cases), insufficient groups (n = 593 cases) and sufficient groups (n = 274 cases). Spearman correlation analysis and multivariate stepwise linear regression analysis were implemented to determine the as...

AbstractPurposeAlthough the gut microbiota (GM) are associated with various diseases, their role in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) remains uncharacterized. Further study is urgently needed to expose the real relationship between GM and GDM.MethodsWe performed a prospective study in 33 pregnant Chinese individuals [15, GDM; 18, normal glucose tolerance (NGT)] to observe the fecal microbiota by 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing at 24 –28 weeks of gestational age after a standard 75 g oral glucose tolerance test. Linear regression analysis was employed to assess the relationships between the GM and GDM cl...

TYPE 1 diabetes causes blood sugar levels to become too high and can cause severe damage to the body if left untreated. Blood tests are the best way to diagnose suspected diabetes, but there are a few unusual symptoms that could be an early warning sign.

The objectives of this study were (1) to characterize the effect of T2DM on microdamage quantity and morphology in cancellous bone, and (2) relate the accumulation of microdamage to the cancellous microarchitecture. Cancellous specimens from the femoral neck were collected during total hip arthroplasty (T2DM: n  = 22, age = 65+ 9  years, HbA1c = 7.00+ 0.98%; Non-DM: n  = 25, age = 61+ 8  years, HbA1c = 5.50+ 0.4%), compressed to 3% strain, stained with lead uranyl acetate to isolate microdamage, and scanned with micro-computed tomography. Individual ...

THE STEEP rise in diabetes rates has highlighted a pressing need for improvements in preventive measures, and the importance of diet cannot be overstated. One berry, when consumed in small portions, could help stave off the condition over time.

Am J Pathol. 2022 Jan 18:S0002-9440(22)00008-6. doi: 10.1016/j.ajpath.2021.12.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is associated with altered microbiota of the gut and bile. Mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are enriched in human liver and uniquely recognizes microbial-derived metabolites. We aimed to determine if bile from patients with PSC contains antigens activating MAIT cells. Bile was collected at the time of liver transplantation from patients with PSC (n=28). The bile samples were either directly incubated with peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from healthy dono...
