CONCLUSION: Moderate doses of radiotherapy are curative in early-stage orbital MALT lymphoma with favorable clinical outcomes. Lower doses of radiation can reduce the toxicity further, without compromising efficacy.PMID:35027338 | DOI:10.1016/j.clml.2021.12.013

Once vitreous loss is identified, procedural guidelines advise that PEA be ceased and the probe carefully withdrawn to minimize traction on the vitreous. The Bimanual-bipedal technique described in this paper holds the PEA probe in place and inserts the vitrectomy cutter through the pars plana port with the other hand. Following removal of vitreous around the PEA tip, the vitrectomy cutter is switched to a cutting rate of...

CONCLUSIONS: There is a trend towards surgical subspecialisation in ophthalmology in the USA whereby some surgeons focus their surgical practice on subspecialty procedures and rarely perform surgeries in the core domain.PMID:35027354 | DOI:10.1136/bjophthalmol-2021-320295

AbstractThe Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) population refers to the population of young adults and adolescents in the 15 –39 years age group. This population subgroup experiences various important life events. Head and neck malignancies are rare tumors, in general, but they are extremely rare in the AYA population. When analyzed by the primary site of the tumors, thyroid gland, soft tissue, and nasopharyngeal malig nancies are the most commonly encountered head and neck malignancies in the AYA generation. The most common histopathologic subtypes are carcinomas (thyroid carcinoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma) and ...

AbstractCorneal injuries can occur secondary to traumatic, chemical, inflammatory, metabolic, autoimmune, and iatrogenic causes. Ocular infection may frequently occur concurrent to corneal injury; however, antimicrobial agents are excluded from this present review. While practitioners may primarily rely on clinical examination techniques to assess these injuries, several pharmacological agents, such as fluorescein, lissamine green, and rose bengal, can be used to formulate a diagnosis and develop effective treatment strategies. Practitioners may choose from several analgesic medications to help with patient comfort without...

CONCLUSIONS: Adopting a set of four temporary OR protocols that are often mandatory in the Western world did not reduce the POE rate. Along with previously published studies, these results challenge the necessity of these common practices which may be needlessly costly and wasteful, arguing for the reevaluation of empiric and potentially unnecessary guidelines that govern ophthalmic surgeries.PMID:35017161 | DOI:10.1136/bjophthalmol-2021-320506
