Serum inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 4 in patients with inflammatory bowel disease: correlation with disease risk, inflammation, activity, and its variation after treatment

AbstractBackgroundInter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 4 (ITIH4) plays vital roles in inflammatory and auto-immune diseases, but its correlations with disease risk and clinical features in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) need further investigation. The present study intended to explore the correlation of ITIH4 with disease activity and inflammation, as well as its change after treatment in IBD patients.MethodsTotally, 40 active Crohn ’s disease (A-CD) patients, 40 clinical-remission CD (R-CD) patients, 40 active ulcerative colitis (A-UC) patients, 40 clinical-remission UC (R-UC) patients, and 40 health controls (HCs) were enrolled. ITIH4 in serum was assessed by ELISA.ResultsITIH4 was lower in A-CD, R-CD, A-UC, and R-UC patients than in HCs (P

Am J Transl Res. 2021 Dec 15;13(12):13916-13930. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTInflammatory bowel diseases are chronic illnesses that involve intestinal inflammation and are usually diagnosed as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. As these diseases do not have a cure, the goal of treatment is to induce and maintain remission. Monoclonal antibodies have been recognized as the most advanced therapy to avoid complications and reduce the need for surgical approaches. However, although their effectiveness has been proven by several studies, they can trigger the immune system, induce the occurrence of immunogenicity, which may lea...

This study was performed to investigate the clinical roles of PR3-ANCAs in the disease severity, disease extension, and clinical course of UC.METHODS: Serum PR3-ANCAs were measured in 173 UC patients including 77 patients with new-onset patients UC diagnosed within 1 month, 110 patients with Crohn's disease, 48 patients with other intestinal diseases, and 71 healthy controls. Associations between the PR3-ANCA titer and clinical data, such as disease severity, disease extension, and clinical course, were assessed. The clinical utility of PR3-ANCA measurement was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis....

Rom J Morphol Embryol. 2021 Apr-Jun;62(2):395-400. doi: 10.47162/RJME.62.2.05.ABSTRACTUlcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are the inflammatory bowel diseases with a continuously increasing of prevalence. Their exact causes are still not well known and, more than that, they are raising up serious issues of diagnosis. The same difficulties of diagnosis are encountered in the case of the colonic angiodysplasia or ischemic colitis (IC). Colonic angiodysplasia is a common vascular abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract, being diagnosed mostly in the elderly persons, in a similar manner to the IC. For all these diseases co...

CONCLUSIONS: available objective data to guide nutritional support and primary nutritional therapy in IBD are presented as 64 recommendations, of which 9 are very strong recommendations (grade A), 22 are strong recommendations (grade B), and 12 are based only on sparse evidence (grade 0); 21 recommendations are good practice points (GPP).PMID:35014851 | DOI:10.20960/nh.03857

CONCLUSIONS: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass was associated with increased risk of Crohn's disease and unclassified inflammatory bowel disease, whereas sleeve gastrectomy was associated with increased risk of ulcerative colitis only.PMID:35012883 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2021.12.014
