Yoga – A strong intake of breath?

Purpose: Maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) is a measure of the strength of inspiratory muscles obtained by measuring the pressure these muscles exert on air as it is inhaled into the lungs (Volianitis et al., 2001). While studies have investigated the effect of globally different postures on MIP (Costa et al., 2014; Naitoh et al., 2014), there is little existing research into the effect of minor postural alterations. Yoga is becoming more popular and is already known for its beneficial affects on posture, strength and breathing control (Ross et al., 2013).
