FEVAR and BEVAR: The new standard for comparison – Defining what is possible

The authors describe an incredible experience of fenestrated (FEVAR) and branched (BEVAR) grafts for the treatment of complex perivisceral and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs) from four institutions spanning 12  years.1 Although the data were analyzed retrospectively, they were collected prospectively using defined criteria and accepted reporting standards. The procedural technical success rate was 93% among the 596 patients and the overall perioperative mortality rate was 5% with the individual complicat ions rates all less than 15% (renal, 13%; pulmonary, 8%; cardiac, 7%; spinal cord ischemia [SCI], 8%).
