In this study, we examined the effect of 5-HTTLPR polymorphism on prenatal and postnatal symptoms of depression and posttraumatic stress in women. Methods A longitudinal design with three points – time 1 (32–40 weeks gestation); time 2 (2 or 3 weeks after birth), and time 3 (3 months after birth) – was made. A total of 141 women were recruited during childbirth preparation courses. At time 1, women completed the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Los Angeles Symptoms Checklist (LASC). At time 2, they fulfilled BDI and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EDPS), LASC and the Peri...

AbstractIntimate partner violence (IPV) during pregnancy presents a risk for maternal mental health problems, preterm birth, and having a low birthweight infant. We assessed the  prevalence of self-reported physical, emotional, and sexual violence during pregnancy by a current partner among women with a recent live birth. We analyzed data from the 2016–2018 Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System in six states to calculate weighted prevalence estimates and 95% confi dence intervals for experiences of violence by demographic characteristics, health care utilization, and selected risk factors. Overal...

However, its specific role(s) in memory is still unclear. Hippocampal damage or dysfunction mainly results in memory issues, especially in the declarative memory but, in animal studies, has also shown to lead to hyperactivity and difficulty in inhibiting responses previously taught. The brain structure is affected in neuropathological disorders, such as Alzheimer's, epilepsy, and s...

Organochlorines (hexachlorobenzene, p,p'-dichl...

To the Editor Van Lieshout and colleagues conducted a randomized clinical trial of an online 1-day cognitive behavioral therapy workshop vs waiting list in a population at risk of postpartum depression and evaluated the effect using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, a patient-reported outcome measure of depressive symptom severity. Using linear mixed models (LMM) with restricted maximum likelihood estimation, they showed statistically significant group × time interactions with standard deviations were associated with Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale score (B = −2.94, SE = 8.67; P

In Reply We thank Toyomoto and colleagues for their comments regarding loss to follow-up in our randomized clinical trial of 1-day cognitive behavioral therapy –based workshops for postpartum depression. Attrition is a long-standing issue in the field of clinical trials, and we appreciate the opportunity to provide additional detail on loss to follow-up and the methods we used to attempt to minimize bias.
