“Immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for malignant pleural mesothelioma”

Malignant pleural mesothelioma is an uncommon cancer which is linked aetiologically to asbestos exposure. Patients present with symptomatic pleural effusions, dyspnoea, cough, chest wall pain, or systemic symptoms such as weight loss and fatigue. With the increasing use of computed tomography (CT) scanning, presentation as an incidental finding of small pleural effusion or pleural thickening is not uncommon. Although peritoneal, testicular and pericardial mesothelioma also occur, here we focus on pleural mesothelioma as evidence for checkpoint blockade has almost entirely been generated in this group.
