Pediatric Firearm Injury Trends in the United States: A National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) Analysis
The USA ranks poorly in pediatric firearm injury and fatality amongst developed countries and firearm violence has become an increasing public health concern for the pediatric population [1]. Firearm injuries are now the second leading cause of injury-related death in United States children under 18 [2]. In 2019 alone, 2541 children and adolescents under 18 suffered fatal injuries due to firearms [3]. These two papers used the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System and the CDC [Centers for Disease Control& Prevention] National Violent Death Reporting System.
